Howdy! I'm new to the group, as of last night, and I've got a little community-warming present. It's the first piece of a The Sting fic, which will be done in five shortish parts. Love to hear what y'all think. :)

I really like the dialogue in this. It's defensive, but the lightness that is so very them is present. The wit is spot-on. Do continue. I'd love to see how this unfolds. <3
As for the whole Johnny vs. Hooker thing: He's always been Hooker to me. It's in the sound of the name, the assertiveness and the way it lingers on the tongue, that little curl at the end that easily slides to the lips. It captures the guile of his personality, which is the part of his character I am personally attracted to. But, you know, "Johnny" fits him just as well. "Johnny" makes me think of sun-bleached hair and playful smiles. Use whichever name you think will better reflect the Johnny Hooker in your story. : )

And I totally agree with you about the Hooker vs. Johnny thing. I don't know, when I changed the name it just seemed to... click into place so much better. It was like I could see it rather than just read it. Or somethin'.
But thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! So glad you liked the dialogue, and I'm excited to continue. Very excited. ;)

I loved all the details that remind us that Henry is old. Like the pillow between his legs thing. And the comparison of Hooker to a spaniel is so... uniquely you. And works so well. KUDOS - cannot wait for more!

A pillow between the legs is a sign of aging!? :( Twenty years old and I'm past my prime, because that's seriously one of the best feelings ever. Besides walking into a roomful of pies.
Hah, and I couldn't help the comparison. That's just what I see. But thank you so much, and you won't be waiting long. <3 these two, and I'm pumped to continue. :D
