Out of the rain. I just wanted to get out of the rain. I arrived at the homeless shelter just as they were about to close the doors. Funny, that a city as new as this would still have homeless people living in it. The woman running the facility opened the door to let me in, then took a moment to stare at me. I leaned against the wall, next to her, and looked out at the night sky. "The people I work with bring talents to the agency that I lack, sometimes. Insights I lack. They provide a human element for dealing with people who... generally tend to be human, and can be ...a little intimidated by me. And... they want to help. On our own, we're weaker, more easily ignored or defeated ...or killed. As a team, we watch out for each other, strengthen each other, and make a more powerful force for good than we would if we were each working alone. But having friends... friends, and not just co-workers, is ... for its own sake. For my own sake. I need ... humanizing influences. People I can connect to and relate to, otherwise, I'm just a human-looking monster. And ... I... I need them. I like them. ( ... )

Glancing away as he mentions Jimmy and Tara, I nod. "Over-eager puppy dog.. he must have been the guy asking for an interview on my way up here. And Tara? You mentioned her before.. Isn't she..uh, Willow's Tara that was killed a few years back?"
"She's.. she's great."
I hear something in his voice when he talks about her, and I turn to look up at him once more, a soft grin forming on my face. "She must be pretty special.."
