In a week I had gone from having no friends and being unhappy and at college, to being lost and homeless in a new city, to having not one but two jobs and two friends. It was unsurprising that I felt a little disorientated

I came down the winding staircase at the back of the office, taking the stairs one and two at a time, pulling a dark blue long-sleeved sweater over my head and running my hands over my still-damp hair. I stopped in the doorway between the front office and the back office and sniffed with my head still half way inside the collar of my sweater. "Coffee?" I asked aloud. I turned around slowly towards the smell of fresh-roasted beans and froze as Tara came into view

I jumped slightly at the sound of Angel's voice and turned to look at him. His face was half covered by a sweater, which meant half his stomach was exposed. Hurriedly he pulled down the sweater and I blushed and looked away. Not really the ideal start to the day, catching my new boss half-dressed!
Angel, surprisingly, seemed as awkward as me, and grabbed at a coffee. He offered me a cup and then went red. My eyes followed his to the slogan on the mug.
"Cu-cupid's Sweetheart," I said, rather amused. "S-so, um, how long have you two been seeing each other?" I picked up a safely plain blue mug and filled it with coffee.
"...I'm just ... really making a great impression as the new boss, huh?"
"I-it's my fault," I said at once, ducking my head slightly. "I shouldn't have got here so early, I guess. I was just worried about being late. Did you, um, sleep well?"
"Uhm," I glanced back over my shoulder at the coffee mug. "No. I think ... it belonged to Cordellia."
I surrendured my pride to my thirst and picked the mug up again, grinning somewhat in embarrassment as I lifted it to my lips and sipped on it.
"I-it's my fault, I shouldn't have got here so early, I guess."
"No, no," I shook my head at the blonde and smiled. "Coffee is... good." I laughed slightly. "You come in early whenever you want. I'll just... wear clothes from now on."
I took another sip of my coffee, and blinked my eyes open to the day. "I slept... very little." I grinned ruefully and finished the cup of coffee, pouring myself another. "Inspector Turpin - Dan Turpin, of the Metropolis Special Crime Unit? - called me out last night to help subdue a teenager who ..." I frowned slightly and walked across the small space of the office, sitting down on the other side of the desk, across from Tara. "...apparently, he can move things and people with his mind. He didn't even realise it, he thought he was demon possessed."
"Oh," I said softly. Dawn had told me about what happened to Cordelia, who I had never met but who had been, in Dawn's words, "oh my God, such a bitch when she was at school with Buffy, but then she ended up working for Angel and apparently got quite nice. Then apparently she got possessed or something and died. I hear Angel was pretty upset." I didn't mention any of this. Instead I said quietly: "I'm sorry. You must miss her
