One of the things I've been working on lately:
A little kirtle for a little girl:
Kirtle and sleeves here. The petticote (lavender linen) is cut out and waiting. She will get an apron, a coif, and hopefully a little partlet as well.
All materials so far have come from my stash, though I will need to procure black wool for the partlet (but that's ok, as I need a partlet, too, and hers will be small enough to come out of scraps from mine!)
The kirtle is of pink wool (I only had ~2yds, which was more than enough) that I didn't know what to do with.
It's lined with a light-green linen that I also had only a bit of left around.
The sleeves are of purple wool scraps left from a different project.
The stripes are of black petersham ribbon that I picked up a big roll of at a garage sale. Squee!
The coif and apron will come from scraps as well.
I am full of "squee!" about this project. I can't remember now if I started this on Monday night or Tuesday. I think Monday. Anyway, it's been keen.
Thanks to
chargirlgenius for advice on making clothing for growing children. There's extra room in the seam allowances to let the bodice out, extra length to let the bodice down, extra length in the hem, and while I will fit the shoulder straps directly on her, I will leave lots of room to let them out as needed as well. Sleeves have some room to grow into, but tie-on sleeves can be easily replaced as she grows.
By the time she outgrows it completely, hopefully
talkisdead 's daughter or another little one will be ready for it...
So, that's had my fingers occupied for the last few days. I did more by hand than I should have, but I so prefer it to working on the machine...
ETA: This is, for those following along at home, for
the_geoffrey and
otterhill 's FDG.
And thanks to
liadan_m for measuring the kiddo for me!
