When LiveJournal, Inc., was launched in December the new team made it very clear that LiveJournal was going to change. We also said that we would respect the values and legacy of LiveJournal. But, we can’t ignore the fact that as LiveJournal nears its second decade it needs to make some business decisions ( Read more... )

When did you remove "porn", "fanfiction", "sex", "yaoi", "girls" and "boys" from the Popular interest list?

Don't you want to tell your advertisers that an important part of your user base are porn-reading, copyright-breaking fandom geeks? Did you think that it would be cool to censor the results?

And most importantly, didn't you think that presenting a doctored profile of the user base to you advertisers could be intrepid as a fraud?

And drugs is still okay ;)

Because it's still possible to search for those interests, I think it's only to hide just how popular they are among the LJ users. Maybe their advertises want LJ to be cool, not geeky.

*facepalm*

Well considering that this is the land of the sexually repressed and where consensual sex can have you wind up on the sex offender list...

I wouldn't be too sure that their pr reps over the peverted justice fiasco had them take it down. ...yet it's still searchable...

*shrugs*

Sex is just soooo taboo.
If wasn't being against our first amendment rights, those bible thumpers would have found a way to get rid of porn.

God I love the first amendment.

btw...drugs, there are some medical comms here, and we still use the same word for legal and illegal 'drugs'.

Why? We're not a site for TEH CHILDRENS. Why try to attract users who aren't your main reach?

Because if they can get the kids, they can turn this into a commercial cesspool, just like MySpace, and make money.

Funny thing is the Russian side of LJ has no interests being filtered.

Huh. The Russian side and the American side of Lj staffers might not communicate at all? Or maybe they think that American advertisers care about their ads appearing next to porn or fan fiction, and Russian advertisers don't?

Sad thing that I don't read Russian. It would be interesting to follow Lj issues side by side.

XD I find it incredibly amusing that they removed "yaoi" but not "slash". Oh LJ. You make me lol.
