The new Share This code is not playing well with my Opera 10.10 browser (on Mac). It essentially disrupts the Back button, so I end up with an intermediate URL such as hxxp://wd.sharethis.com/share3x/lightbox.xxxxx.html. This isn't thrilling me.

What is even less thrilling is URLs from hxxp://www.googleadservices.com filling up my browser history. This behaviour only started yesterday. Here is an example URL in its entirety:

hxxp://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/1036609180/?random=1268896402880&cv=6&fst=1268896402880&num=1&fmt=1&value=0&label=PE0WCPqptAEQnM2l7gM&bg=666666&hl=en&guid=ON&u_h=800&u_w=1280&u_ah=800&u_aw=1280&u_cd=32&u_his=11&u_tz=660&u_java=true&u_nplug=2&u_nmime=264&url=http%3A//wd.sharethis.com/share3x/lightbox.15af31b73a3eb29d5bb023140bc5710d.html

I will be blocking these domains for obvious reasons. I too would like to be able to opt out of Share This! if this is an example of its functionality.

+2 I was wondering if I was the only one with this problem and I saw that a user on my friends list also has this problem.

Fix please?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that they didn't test this change in Opera. We are about 2% or less of the browser market. ): Poor Opera, so unappreciated.

I sorted my problems by blocking the domains using Blocked Content. See my reply to ann_x_amber below if you're interested.

Same here.

Can I ask a stupid question? How do you block it?

Assuming you are using Opera 9+, go to Tools > Advanced > Blocked Content. I've added the following domain names:

http://www.googleadservices.com/*
http://wd.sharethis.com/*
http://w.sharethis.com/*

The * is a wildcard character, so it will match anything after the /. I use a Mac, so Blocked Content may appear in a slightly different place on a Windows PC.

If you use Firefox, the AdBlock extension should work a treat.

Since I made this change, the trouble with the Back button has disappeared (thankfully). And no more googleadservices blowing out my History. I hope this helps you.

I'm probably being overly suspicious of this change, but after the URL redirect fiasco, I'm a bit wary.

It worked, thank you!

You are not being overly suspicious, it is suspicious. I couldn't care less about the look of the buttons or "my stuff", but this thing they really should get fixed. :\

I've blocked this with extreme prejudice too, but it still messes with the history buttons: Forward button loses the visited pages. :/

Firstly, make sure you have included the * character at the end of the URL in the block list. That is pretty important.

Also you could try clicking and holding on the Forward button to get a page list. I found that, when my Back or Forward buttons weren't working, it was because a stray URL was between me and my page, so I had to click twice or more to get to it. If you find such URLs, like the //wd.sharethis.com/ ones, add them to the Blocked Content list using the format above. Check your History too, but they don't always show up there.

Good luck!

Uh hi. I have the same problem with Opera and sharethis. So I googled for a solution and stumble over your comment.

Well, what can I say... you are MY HERO right now!! Thanks so much for this. I'm finally rid of this annoying crap, messing up my browser. :)
