LJ's IP is listed in the Spamhaus Blocking List because LJ is allowing Russian pharma spammers to abuse their service. Spamhaus is one of the most respected anti spam organizations in the world, and being listed there means they've ignored spammers on their network for quite a while and virtually no large ISP/email host wants their mail until they start acting like responsible Internet citizens.

http://www.spamhaus.org/Sbl/listings.lasso?isp=livejournal.com is the listing.

(if it does work you could try forwarding from gmail to your real email as a work around, but I don't know if *that* would work)

Oh MAN. We get stupid Facebook-mimicking games in trade for this? How marvelous.

Come on, LJ, get your priorities straight. LJ isn't Facebook, and we don't want it to be. There's a reason I have several paid accounts, and ignore Facebook's existence as much as possible. That reason is not so that I can get spam consistently ignored.

I wonder if that's just because of mail they're forwarding (the username@livejournal.com service), or worse than that?

Edit: I think azurelunatic has the right of it about the cause.

Good job, LJ. Jeez, get your act together already, this is ridiculous.

Thank god. For a second there I was almost starting to believe LJ had integrity. End of days officially canceled.

...why would you think that?

I am not at all surprised. I keep having to ban Russian spammers from my comms. But instead of dealing with that, LJ is too busy trying to be Facebook -- like adding stupid games that no one wants -- which I despise. Just another reason I'm thankful for Dreamwidth.

Yeah, I've gotten more spam in the past month than I've gotten in the entire nine-some years I've been on LJ.

+1. For fuck's sake. I've gotten more spam in the past three days than in the past howeverlong I've been on lj.

The spamming started with the integration of Facebook logins. That's when I started having to ban spammers. I never got spam before that.

Lucky. I've had spam for years. :\

Dude, I've gotten more spam in the past week from LJ than I have from random BS I signed up for on my Yahoo Account in the last year, and that is saying something.

Ugh. Way to go, LJ.

I don't know about the others, but I've received some spam comments in my journals the last week or so from "Largest E-book Library". Usually I don't have any spam whatsoever on LJ.
