The commenting fixes and such looks good--not that I had a lot of problems with what these fixes addressed, but fixes to users' functionality problems are generally always welcome.

However, am now waiting for some smart programmer outside of LJ to make something that overrides this scissors business. Why do you do unnecessary things WITHOUT asking the people who use this place every day? (Or is it "Heaven forbid the users actually like the way the site looks, quick, change it!")

It's not like you're lacking for space on the front page now, right? How about some polls for these kinds of changes instead of just enacting them?

I don't mind the dotted line+scissor halves in the rich text edit, but changing parentheses to THAT, reducing visibility, compatibility, and logic?

No. No. No....

And no.

there's bound to be a more elegant solution than this hack, but for now:

add the following to your stylesheet:

.ljcut-link { color:transparent; margin-left:-25px; }
.ljcut-link:before { content:"( "; color:#000000; padding-left:25px; }
.ljcut-link:after { content:" )"; color:#000000; }
.ljcut-link a { margin-left:-25px; }

where 25px is the amount of space "✂···" takes up in your layout's font (note it's a positive value for padding and negative for margin) and #000000 is replaced with your layout's normal font colour.

If you can get that into a free-user available style, even if it's ugly as sin ... I am so there.

Well, I just tried putting it into the Custon CSS section of my basic account and it worked fine? What's not working for you?

Yes? Nifty. I thought they'd killed that option ... I'll go try now. Maybe I can add some bolding (and parens), while I am at it. Thx!

Note: The CSS code goes here, into the Custom stylesheet box.

Thank you so much for this.

Question: any idea why an image (using html < img src > code) that is outside the LJ cut in the same post no longer appears? I have a friend's only banner that used to show up (and I've confirmed the img src link is correct) but now no longer appears after this stupid code change by LJ.

Thanks! Plugged it into the bottom of my current CSS code and it worked like a charm!

A side note for those using LiveJournal Ad-Ons 9.5 -- if you see a grey box in the middle of your text, go to options in the extensions page on Firefox and turn off "cut expander".

Also, does anyone else have a problem with their text being delayed as they type? Because it is driving me UP A WALL.

Thanks for the help getting rid of the grey box! :D

Just when I'd gotten used to them working again in 9.6... I wish the cut expanders were at the end of the sentence, and therefore outside of the same div.
