Well we really screwed this one up…

For reasons we are still trying to figure out what was supposed to be a well planned attempt to clean up a few journals that were violating LiveJournal's policies that protect minors turned into a total mess. I can only say I’m sorry, explain what we did wrong and what we are doing to correct these problems and explain what we were trying to do but ( Read more... )

Mr. Berkowitz

You have my respect for actually answering questions personally, sir. You also have my respect for shutting down some blogs that were devoted to something truly horrific.

What he said.

I'm starting my PhD in consumer behavior this fall, and I've watched this develop all day as a real-time example of absolutely horrific CRM on SixApart and Livejournal's part. I took notes. Many notes. From dozens of angles. It would be an easy writeup, and it's a bad, bad thing when you could serve as a case in a MBA program, since they only ever seem to let you discuss Southwest as an unqualified good. Everyone else is "well, let's examine the different layers of how they screwed up."

That said, your engaging directly with people right now is something that you very seldom see. I'm still worried about your accountability to your userbase -- which I think I have a pretty clear picture of; check the user ID and signup date. But that accountability does start at the top, and so this is encouraging. Your "thin veneer" comment is, frankly, so discouraging that it outweighs just about everything else right now, but this is at least a start.
