Hello again.

I want to update you on the status of correcting the issues that occurred earlier this week:

First, all journals and communities that were suspended that did not clearly violate community policies have been restored. Over the weekend and into the next couple of weeks we will be doing the following:

I don't understand how suspending a community helps deal with a DDOS attack that contains its name. Explain, please.

I really can't go into detail about this; I'm sorry, but I can't provide much more information than what I've already told you. But please believe me: this isn't an issue of censorship at all, it is just what we have to do in order to make sure that the site remains stable for all other users, and it is hopefully only temporary.

Will you be able to explain it after the DDOS attacks have ended? Because right now it does look like an act of censorship. Blocking certain character combinations is understandable, but in that case, suspending communities that said combinations reference seems redundant.

Since I'm not from LJ, I can theorize all I like.

To me, it sounds like the DDOS likely originated from members of that community.

Then why go through the trouble of blocking words and suspending several communities instead of deleting the pages in question?

And suspending the whole community decreases the load how? Each request still needs to be processed, doesn't it? Again, I understand why they may be cutting the words off at the firewall, but suspending the communities seems like a littele too much.

The community had many members, yet not a single one was suspended. The community was, though. DOES NOT COMPUTE.

I certainly don't want to be involved in setting the dogs on you guys if this is just a temporary measure but I'd suggest an official announcement might be wise because your Russian users are clearly highly worried and a lot of the rest of us are still feeling pretty suspicious.

Yep, actually from LJ. *g* We don't do public announcements of things like this because that's really just an open invitation for people to continue to hurt LJ's performance; we just can't do that sort of thing.
