The danger of auctions

Jul 16, 2004 01:58

So, as a matter of the public interest, I figured I should let it be known that auctions, when not treated with respect and care, can be dangerous things.  My family has a history with auctions, and it's worth documenting, so ( I'll document it here. )

humanity, fambly, cool stuff

Yeah, I enjoyed the story very much when I first read it, but forgot about it for a good long while. Then, recently, I heard one of our local talk radio DJs read the entire story on the air, and it pretty much kept me riveted. It's a great story.

But you did manage to come out ahead with those JetDirect boxes. :)
So auctions can't be all bad!

And you sold those on EBay, another good auction. (Although a foreign student in our lab made the mistake of buying a PC through EBay by writing a check... he never got his PC.)

Very true, but since I was writing about the perils of auctions, I decided to present just those bits that represented the perilous aspect of auctions. It's a one-sided look at things, I know, but in this case it's more fun that way. =B)

Ditto with the reference kudos. My ex-CuddleBitch read "Harrison Bergeron" to me one evening after we were feeling particularly smug and superior. Did you read that in 7th grade at Liberty Bell (now defunct) with the rest of us in Martha's class? I can't remember which "pod" you were in.

I did, indeed first read it at the old LB. Wasn't it C-Pod? God, except for you guys, and then the few friends I made when I first moved to Soddy Daisy, I absolutely hated the entire middle-school experience and have tried to forget as much about it as I possibly can.
