Book geeking

I recently inherited (read: saved from a fate in the recycle bin) something pretty neat. An original copy of the Roll Call: A Masque of the Red Cross, from 1917. I haven't done more than thumb through it yet, and was pleasantly surprised to find it was even sparsely illustrated. Looks kind of like watercolor to me.

Thank you. It's pretty neat what turns up in the least expected places, sometimes!

i'm picturing these finds as --

someone who is lost and trying to find anything and stumbles upon a treasure chest...

opens it and finds a book and a trinket... picks it up and blows off the dust....

and then sells it and receives a bajillion bucks. and suddenly made a crappy day a little better.

I missed the bajillion bucks part this time, darn it. I must have blown too much dust off! But otherwise, that's kind of how it went.

(Also, hi there. Nice to see you around again.)

Wow, you done good in recycling those things. Those are gorgeous. You don't need to have clear criteria on something to justify calling it "collecting." All it takes is love of what you're collecting.

Thank you very much. Then I'd definitely call it collecting. I'm selective, but everything I have has some meaning to me. If I were just a straight out book nut, I'd be more tempted by the original copy of the Wizard of Oz that's in a glass case at my favorite local bookstore. I'm pretty sure it's an original run copy, anyway, with that monstrous price tag.
