Obviously there are many people having the same problem, but for goodness' sake, this business with the DADA textbooks is completely out of hand... she set our class the task of researching protective potions, but the information on the subject isn't in the set text and none of the Potions books seem to carry the relevant stuff either! I remember ( Read more... )

I think she's trying to make sure people believe she's the purest pureblood around. She's been annoyingly nice to me as well, and has been throwing hints about a certain connection between the Selwyns and the Bettencourts (my mother's family) even though I doubt the Bettencourts had any connection with any British wizarding family before my parents met.

Really? That's odd. And stupid, really. I mean, I'm a textbook half-blood, why would I give a damn about how pure her blood is?

I don't think she cares about what you might think, as long as she might make other people think there's a connection between your families. At least that's my assumption; I'm not crazy enough to ask her what the deal might be.

Maybe you're right, but given that my Dad was called a blood traitor not long ago by one of the Selwyns, her plan would be backfiring I think most people would just think she's being daft.

As long as the homework is impossible for everyone, then we just have to do the best we can. The examiners will have to make allowances, they can't just fail everybody.

I suppose the one blessing is that she's not marking the exams. It's frustrating to be mad to sit through all of this, though, how are we supposed to perform to a good standard in the finals without a good range of material to learn from? She's a silly woman.

Yeah, that's true. I don't know how we're supposed to be up to scratch in the practical side. I suppose she's trying to protect us.

She was being nice to me earlier, too. I wish she'd do it from a distance. I can practically see everybody averting their eyes from the clash between her clothes and my hair. Apparently she knows my mum a bit.

Hang on, your name's familiar. Does your mum work at the Ministry?

Yes, in the Floo Network Office. I suppose she's been networking a bit, if she knows the Senior Undersecretary.

She certainly has a talent for smarminess. Which proved to be unlimited even when I rather abruptedly told her that my father and mother were unconcerned with our family tree and I knew very, very little of extended and distant relations, if anything at all.

My little cousin, however, is loving it.

Damn, I wish I'd thought of that. I was just so surprised that I stood there nodding.

That of course is completely understandable. One finds her insistance on wearing that shade AND talking to one like a five-year-old offends one's sense of intelligence almost into hiding.

I think continued exposure to that colour may contribute to eyesight damage.

I owled my brother for a copy of his from last year, which arrived this morning. If you'd like, I can ask my parents to send me my old text if you don't mind waiting until I recieve next week's care package? My sister, Daina, only just passed her DADA owl decided not to study the subject this year.

That would be brilliant, thankyou. Would it be OK to charm the cover to look like something different? I suppose you can't be too careful with whatever this ridiculous new regime of hers is.
