COMC and Professor Umbridge

Feb 02, 2008 16:48

It was a weird COMC class today. First of all Hagrid wasn't looking at all cheerful like usual, and though we were supposed to cover graphorns, Hagrid suddenly switched the curriculum to kneazles because he said Professor Umbridge was visiting and would not like us to know anything about dangerous creatures ( Read more... )

That explains why Hagrid was so jumpy in our class every time the baby kneazle moved.

You'd think she'd be fond of a creature like that, since she seems to like cats so much. But I don't think she likes the way Hagrid teaches. I mean if from what everyone says she dislikes hands-on training for classes and all. But how can one really learn Care of Magical Creatures from books, you know?

I don't take Care of Magical Creatures, but this doesn't sound good. What happened was hardly Hagrid's fault from the sound of things and there always will be a risk of injury in a class like that, but I can see her using it against him.

Oh, it wasn't Hagrid's fault at all, and maybe the kneazle just didn't like her, since she does seem a bit dodgy from all I've heard. But it really doesn't bode well for Hagrid does it? I overheard Ursula talking with Keeley about Umbridge the other day and both of them seem to think that she dislikes half-breeds.

I'd heard something about her being behind the newer laws which make it virtually impossible to hire werewolves, so that makes perfect sense.

Add to how she seems to be wanting to sack someone, this does not bode well at all for poor Hagrid. I know he is not a particularly competent teacher but I would like to think that if someone was removed from their post, it would be based on merit.

I wouldn't be getting too attached to Professor Hagrid if I were you.

You're frightening me.

That's not my intention. But the disappointment would be easier to take if you're prepared for it than if you're not. I guarantee you, either he or Trelawney will be gone for Easter.

NO! NOT TRELAWNEY! AGH!

Neither option is good for me. And it's not just because of loving them both, but because I'm afraid they'll get replaced with someone who will not only be approved by Umbridge, but who will be like her.

You've got to admit, the kneazle's timing was pretty funny.

I feel bad for Hagrid though, this whole thing can't be easy for him.

Well, the timing was funny, but she'll probably use it as a reason to do something bad to Hagrid, which makes it not so funny, you know?

That was pretty comic timing. If only it weren't going to get Hagrid into trouble I would have laughed. Why can't that sort of thing happen in Snape's classes?

Yeah, Hagrid doesn't deserve to get in trouble, particularly since he's clearly already been taking measures to prevent the class from being too dangerous though really, the more dangerous creatures were interesting! and all that, and... well, he should be commended for the effort at least.

I think things like that don't happen as much in Snape's class because people are afraid of Snape since he's so fond of picking on those who aren't Slytherins being severe. And plus anyone who's in NEWT-level Potions has to have gotten an O on the OWL, and probably would know what they're doing and not have too many mishaps.

Hagrid doesn't deserve to get in trouble because he's one of the best teachers this school has, not to mention all the work he does as Keeper of Keys and Grounds.

Snape's classes are just too orderly for that sort of thing to happen. You'd think with something as volatile as Potions we'd get a few more explosions, but no. All we learn in that class is how to follow instructions, there's no encouragement of creativity.

She's trying to get rid of people she thinks are too close to Dumbledore, isn't she?

Oh, this is awful.
