Today in the library I was reading ahead in leafing through my Muggle Studies textbook and there was a section about Muggle medicine. It's pretty interesting how they cure diseases without potions and spells. Some of it's pretty gross though. I mean, really, whoever came up with the idea of "immunizations" must have been completely deranged. ( Read more... )

Oh, I just looked at that section after I read this. Anti-depressants, right?

Hmm - well, if she were depressed and on anti-depressants, then why would she want everyone else to be so miserable still - despite the pink? And if she's depressed and not on anti-depressants, why is she still getting so much joy out of making people so miserable?

Well, actually, she's not so much depressed as she is sadistic.

Yes! That's the right section.

You know, I think you might be on to something there, Demelza. I wonder if there is a Muggle medicine to cure sadism?

Ah, those are antidepressants, which are mind-altering substances typically prescribed by certain types of Muggle healers called Psychiatrists for people who are depressed (which in Muggle healing has a scientific definition, not just 'sad' or 'upset'). But they can have some dodgy side effects, I believe. I guess it's kind of like the Muggle equivalent of hitting people with Cheering Charms and dosing them with the Elixir to induce Euphoria constantly. Strangely I think some forms of antidepressants cause people to have suicidal thoughts, which is bizarre considering their intended purpose. Bad chemical reaction, I suppose. Don't know that it should be chanced upon Umbridge though.

BBTB! Did you just make a joke about giving an authority figure suicidal thoughts?! I'm SHOCKED.

Sometimes people make remarks about how I must be constantly hit with Cheering Charms. I don't think I'd act like this if that were the case. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Well, it was a bit of a blow but we're not exactly the type to lie back and be despondent, are we?

All of the above would be welcome, if not strictly necessary.

No. One of the many reasons I like you two so much.

Well the next time I see you, you had better be prepared for hugs and chocolate, George. Because I think they ARE necessary. And I'm glad they're welcome.

Do I get a hug too? Oh well, no matter. You can't tell us apart so I'll just pretend I'm George when you next see me. I'll have to work on not being so devastatingly handsome though!

'Happy' is not a word I'd used to describe Umbridge, even allowing for the not really being happy part. She does smile a lot, though, only... not in a happy way.

I know. It's more of a terrifying way, isn't it? I always feel like she's thinking evil thoughts. And not in the fun way like the twins.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as evil. Malicious, perhaps. They're meant to be fun?

I don't know if I'd like to feel happy if I wasn't happy.

Sometimes being happy is the only way to deal with being sad. I know what you mean.
