sometimes i really hate how trends repeat themselves.

I must believe that people didn't understand the proposal. The wording said "to ban discrimination based on race etc" or something like that. Banning discrimination always sounds like a good idea...

so...you'd rather people get preferential treatment bc of race and gender...how is that equal? i'm a woman, but i don't want to get extra consideration just because i have a vagina. i want to be judged on my talents and intelligence. i don't think race and gender should ever have to enter the equation. it's going to be funny to see how many people read this and go "omg what a dumb bitch."

what i don't understand is why people aren't upset that funding for schools didn't go through...no one seems to care about whether or not kids are getting the things they need for a proper education, but they're pissed that certain people aren't going to get special treatment. how does that make sense?

I think there was a lot of red tape surrounding that bill that most of us can't even begin to understand..there are things to take into consideration like, if funding was being given to schools, it was TAKEN from somewhere else. I don't know enough about it to say either way, but I just think there was way more to it than that, and the fact that I knew of people who said they'd lose their jobs if it passed...? Yeah, I don't know. Just saying, there is likely more than meets the eye :)

I agree that we shouldn't get preferential treatment for having a vag. However, this also gets rid of title 9, which is what allows equality for girls' and boys' sports in schools. Not to mention all the other things that recieve funding as a result. In an idea world it wouldn't be necessary to mandate schools, businesses, etc to give good treatment to women and minorities. However, I just don't think we're there yet to get rid of the program. You're not a dumb bitch. :)
