Thousands of people do this every year. It's basically a contest to try and write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. From November 12am November 1st to 12am December 1st.

people get together and write in groups stay up insane hours, there are forums for challenging others to word wars, daring each other to do specific things in their stories, all kinds of crazy stuff. Its based on the idea that most people who want to write something like a script or novel never actually get around to doing it. These programs help motivate people to work toward a goal in a fun way. Anyhow. That's what those are. Take it easy.
