But I still want to take the dot net offline for good this time and start writing here again (I say for the millionth time).  Or somewhere.  Or nowhere.

Why do you want to take the dot net offline? Spammers, stalkers?

Just a sense of being really vulnerable in this age of the internet. I know it's always been there, but I've been more wary of it lately. Privatizing everything there just seems dumb at this point.

I'm wary of it too, but I feel I reveal more in the little tidbit posts on fb and twitter more than I ever did in my personal blog. Though I did give up my hosted blog a while back so lj is the only place where I still have stuff going way back.
