History:
Canon History The events of ‘Hunter’s Moon’ changed everything for both Elisa and the Manhattan Clan. With their clock tower sanctuary destroyed, the gargoyles returned to the Eeyrie Building and theiir ancestral home of Castle Wyvern. Her brief attraction to Jason Canmore forced her to confront - and, by means of a brief kiss at sunset, admit - her feelings for Goliath at last. And, most importantly of all, the existance of the gargoyles was revealed to the world.
Before Elisa had time to come to terms with any of these developments, however, the ship known as Stacey rescued her from a threat that she hadn’t even been aware of. Her last memory before waking up in the pod chamber was walking away from Goliath as the sun turned him to stone, having finally admitted how she felt about him. She knew that she was ready to face whatever the future held alongside him. She just didn’t expect that future to involve aliens and the potential end of the world.
Personality: When Elisa met Goliath for the first time, she told him that a good detective “trusts no one”. Although she believed that once, Elisa no longer works alone and has enough confidence in the relationships that she’s built to rely on them when she needs to. Her trust is difficult to earn, but she is fiercely loyal when it has been earned. (Similarly, it is almost impossible to win back her trust if you’ve done anything to lose it. This can be seen in her relationship with Xanatos. At the end of the ‘Hunter’s Moon’ trilogy, the gargoyles are far more willing to accept his change of heart than she is.) She also has a steadfast faith in the justice system and the law, which she has dedicated her entire career to upholding.
In keeping with her distrusting nature, Elisa isn’t very good at sharing her secrets or admitting her feelings. (It’s rare to see her breakdown, but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel things as keenly as anyone else. It just means that she keeps her cards close to her chest.) This is a natural defence mechanism and is particularly evident when it comes to her relationship with Goliath. Because she thinks it’s impossible for them to be together, she remains in deep denial about how she feels about him. It took a brief tryst with a man named Jason - a gargoyle hunter who had infiltrated the NYPD by passing himself off as an officer - for her to realise who she really wanted to be with, but there is still a long way for her to go.
Elisa is also highly resilient, with a dry sense of humour and an inability to give up. She isn’t the sort of person to surrender when things go wrong. If she gets knocked down, she will get straight back up again. She fights back by searching for new options and carrying on, determined to do the right thing even if the odds are stacked against her. She trusts her instincts as well as her intelligence and, during her years on the force, she has learned to think on her feet. Because she is a good detective, Elisa is down to earth, believing in the evidence of what she sees and working hard to put together the pieces of whatever puzzling cases she comes across. However, her friendship with the gargoyles has forced her to accept that there are more things in heaven and earth than she ever realised before. She is no longer as much of a sceptic as she once was.
Although Elisa tries to keep her fears in check, the idea of seeing harm come to the people she cares about - including the clan, who are as much a part of her family as her parents and siblings - is the thing that frightens her the most. She has a highly protective streak, which has deepened since she met the gargoyles. In their quest to protect the people of Manhattan, Goliath and the others frequently put themselves in danger. Her brother has also been tricked, manipulated and eventually mutated by the devious businessman Xanatos. Although Derek survived the process, he was undoubtedly changed by it. She won’t - can’t - let something like that happen again. To anyone she loves.
Other: Elisa is a baseline human and suffers from all the weaknesses that that implies. She can be cut or bruised relatively easy and requires time to heal when that happens. She is, however, a detective used to working the night shift in Manhattan. She is good at thinking on her feet and, despite a penchant for junk food, she is physically fit and reasonably fast. Furthermore, her police training involved self defense and hand to hand combat, fire arm training, first aid and vehicle operations, as well as arrest and interogration techniques. She can, consequently, use the majority of guns - from the right world and period of history, at least - proficiently (though she prefers her own simple hand gun) and hold her own in a fight, even against multiple attackers who are larger or apparently stronger than she is.
