I could never take any lit crit/theory or anything like that, for exactly that reason. For me, the more tactile a novel is, the more sensory, the better.

my main complaint is that my walking companions are flung to the four winds, & the thought of walking without them just wrenches my heart such that i can no longer will myself up.
