I'm actually pretty OK with surveillance. Like, it doesn't upset me. What upsets me is the total lack of interest our elected officials take in supervising it, and the lack of interest most of our citizens have in holding the electeds accountable for that ( ... )

if our government could treat it's black soldiers that way, then of course they had no compunction in terms of spying on it's citizens, especially those of color.

Yeah.

(I learned it later than you, when I met some Quakers and nuns who were doing peace work. It wasn't a default for me -- in exactly the way you point out. DEFINITELY white privilege.)
