When she finds him below decks, today, he's checking over their supplies. Somehow, there is always one or more fewer bottles of rum after his tally than before. One's made it into his hands already. He brightens notably at the mention of correspondence from his twin.

It doesn't take long into reading for Jack to go from a bright smile to a much more serious look. Slowly, his eyes take on that sorrowful, glassy, 'deer staring down the hunter's rifle' look. He pouts like a child who's been told there is no Santa Claus all to early. It has to be a lie and it's a terrible one. One he doesn't want at all.
"Bastard! I don't want another Sheldon! No more'n you'd want a diff'rent Jacki!" He shouts at the paper like some people do at answering machines. As if, somehow, enough anger will make it get through to his 'brother'. "Selfish, self-righteous, bugger.... 'spiritual master' my stinking arsehole!"
Then he remembers he's not alone. Jack looks about him, clears his throat, and neatly folds the letter. It's tucked away into a coat pocket. At least he gets the pleasure of breaking a couple minds. He hasn't yet decided on this 'betrayal' business. It may well depend on the details.
