Second Threat

The Orbital Anti-Plaga Laser's done its work. Or as much of it as possible, being thousands of miles distant from Raccoon City in the cold of space. In short, there are still infected citizens that slipped by the OAPL in residences and public buildings ( Read more... )

And with the laser having swept the city, Leon and Becky PINpointed into town, inside the APC. One of the radios was tuned to the local police frequencies, and Leon listened in for any signs of trouble. As they started to drive along, Leon spoke up.

"Ok, remember, we're not looking for your typical, run of the mill kind of zombies..." Leon went on to explain the basic differences between ganados and most zombies, how they were just people who seemed really pissed off and violent, rather than the shambling undead, to keep her distance, and if their head exploded and something else popped out of their necks, a flash grenade would take care of it.

"There's still a chance that the people infected can still be saved, so unless I tell you otherwise, you only use the PRLs and flash grenades. Keep your other weapons on you.

"Ready?"

Becky's looking out the window. It seemed this city was always in a state of disarray, always bombed-out and abandoned.

She looks a little nervous, but is mostly okay. She visibly trying to pick out landmarks.

"...yeah, I think so."

The particular part of the city they're rolling through is pretty well devoid of life. You know, one of those too quiet things.

After a few blocks, there's the first sign of movement -- a dog pretty busily tearing into something smack in the middle of the road. Luckily, that something looks like it was also covered in fur. Clearly not human.

Not human, but still suspicious. Enough to make Leon stop. Las Plagas could still get into dogs, and probably other animals as well.

He honked the horn, to get the animal's attention, then slowly got out of the APC holding one of the PRL pistols. "Wait here, I'll take a look."

Becky listens quietly and makes sounds of comprehension at all the convenient intervals in his story. A species of some heavy, suddenly oppressing guilt starts pressing down her esophagus into her stomach, now that all the pieces of the puzzle were in place.

It suddenly made sense why Leon and Claire had been "so damn inflexible", in Hips' words.

"Y-yeah," is all she says. "I know."

It should be noted here that Rebecca is notorious for being a horrible liar. As it stands, her "glossing over the truth" isn't so great either.

She's suddenly hoping for another fight to crop up. She just wants out of here, considering she has no idea how Leon will react. Honestly, she's expecting a "Chris" reaction.

Leon just gives her a suspicious sidelong look. By now, the whole nexus knew, but there was something in her tone.

"...and how long have you known?" His tone isn't accusational, more curious.

"A... a lot longer than I probably should have," she says. She's not going to try to hide it.

Leon leaned back in his seat and drew in a deep breath, exhaling it slowly.

"And you never mentioned this because...?"

Somewhere else in the city, a PINpoint portal opens, and a perfectly normal looking SUV drives out of an alley.

"Eiko to Luis. Where are you? I'm in city and ready to pick you up."

"Luis here. I'm by the library...it's on the corner of-"

Something knocks over a bottle, shattering and echoing in the silent city. He quickly brings his Mauser to the ready, the other hand holding a small case with equipment for checking the area for any sort of toxin or agent in the air.

"Sorry. It's on the corner of Maple and Roderick. I'm surprised I'm saying this, but I almost wish there were infected people around. This city feels too much like a ghost town. It just doesn't feel right."

"Ah, OK. I have it on the GPS. Be there in a little bit. After the whole t-virus thing a few months back, everyone who could bailed out instead of staying around."

She mutes the mike, and starts driving. As she does, she talks to the person in the back seat.

"You ready for this?"

Ramon had been looking out the window all the while, not hearing a lot of what Eiko was saying over the mic. He's too transfixed by the ghost town appearance of this place, the random bits of carnage. And most of all, the ocassional, fleeting whisps of Plaga activity he feels. They're weak and brief, like the equivalent of a fingertip lightly brushing over your skin, but they are there.

Then he snaps out of it, looking over at Eiko.

"H-Huh? Oh. Si. I am. And Eiko? Thank you for bringing me..."
