I'm guessing this'll be "Heart"?

Thoughts on episode 10: "Moonlight"
Sam so looks like Spike Speigal in close-ups.

So Sam is flashing back to when Dean goes to fetch him. He's talking to Jess about going to look for his dad and about the law school interview. Ten episodes in. Anime tells stories differently sometimes.

Jess nightmares :(

Prostitutes attacked by "wild dogs." Yeah, werewolf episode. And they mention hellhounds.

Dean says something about "smart law student chicks," catches that the topic might be painful to Sam, and apologises.

Madison doesn't have a very good voice actress so far. Yes, we are watching "Heart" in anime form. Less than five minutes in, Madison's stalker Kurt is our suspect. Meanwhile, Sam is apparently connecting Madison to Jessica, which is unsavory. It's not so much he is healing from losing Jess like it is in the show. More like he is connecting the two and liking Madison as a substitute Jessica. They are trying to tell this story WAY too early in the series.

GOD, SAM! SCARY MUCH! Wow, Jared growly voice.

Lol awkward Sam voice. I continue to enjoy Jared's performance. When he's awkward it's cause the script is.

Why is he so into Madison? In the show it's cause he is feeling ready to love again. He clearly isn't in the anime so it just seems...Weird. Whatever, Madisonwolf is attacking Dean.

REVEAL! She is PRETTY as a wolf! I mean in a fanged kind of way.

Oh the animation and lighting is beautiful as Sam realizes she is the wolf.

Sam didn't sleep with her, at least.

Dammit, Blobby.

So Blobby tells them that if they find the werewolf who turned Madison and killed the hookers, she might turn back. But it's never been done before. So Dean goes after Wolf the Ripper and Sammy stays with Madison.

Madison has turned and is attacking Sammy. Not as pretty this time. He can't shoot at her, but he locks her in a closet and makes a sad despair face.

Hurray, Dean kills the other wolf, but the music is still sad.

Next morning, Madison wakes up in the closet and Sam lets her out.

And she....Tries to stab herself? And Sam stops her and gets cut.

So if she makes it through the night without wolfing out they figure she's fine. But she knows she might transform and asks Sam to kill her if she does. Sam says "alright."

What the fuck? Dean is humming "When the Saints Go Marching In." Very lively. With snapping and bad dancing around like a jerk. Sam tells Madison he'll make him stop, but Madison likes it so Sam joins in. It's just weird. Anime is weird.

So it's morning and bells are ringing and birds are singing and the light is beautiful and Madison is still human. The guys leave. And we transition to Sammy lying awake the next night, then to Madison in her room with a shard of glass. For some reason Sam knows she is doing this, so he goes to her room and it's very fast and a little disjointed. He tells her they have to live for the sake of the people who died and she hugs him.

We cut to Dean answering his phone. Sam calling to say she transformed. He's really sad about this, you can hear it in his voice though you can't see his face.

Dean is just going around pointing his gun at noises -_- Madison gets the jump on him, and Sam comes to the rescue. She comes after him and THEN he shoots. This sucks. A lot. He's not shooting her in despair because she asks him to, even though she did ask earlier. He's doing it on impulse out of self-defense. She's not a human at the time, she's a charging wolf. And he's crying, but it doesn't have anywhere NEAR the weight and meaning of the original.

So the post-credits scene. Tinkling music, Sam staring at his bandaged hand from the accidental cut earlier. He takes the bandage off and he's healed. He lets the bandage fly out the window up towards the sky. Pretty.

That was all wrong. They missed all the most important meaningful things in the original completely and settled for a basic re-telling of the plot of "Heart." Meanwhile they tell the story WAY too soon. In the original it's vital to Sam's transformation as a character and when it takes place is very important: Over a year after Jess died, very close to the time when Sam does. But in this episode it's simply someone they couldn't save. She reminds Sam of Jess so there is a connection there, but he doesn't love her and the meaning to the character of Sam is just sucked out. Boo. I'm happy to have Sam-focused episode and if I was able to divorce it from "Heart" it's actually a good episode aside from how fast things get towards the end. But I can't separate it, "Heart" is too important.
