Thoughts on episode 11: "Nightmare"
So we get a THEN about YED ect ect.

I do miss the old plates sometimes.

So with barely any introduction to Sam's dreams, they are suddenly following Sam's dreams -_- Lol they go to a bar and are dismayed because everyone is drunk and rowdy cause there's a hocky game. Dean chats up a chick. And is cockblocked by Sam again. Stupid Sam, this is much more important than your dreams.

So the dude locks himself in the bar's bathroom and mysterious stuff happens with the toilet. It overflows with black stuff. Demon out of the sewers. With that origin it's probably Ruby ;) ;) And it kills the guy. Title card.

Pensive Sam is pensive. Another dream he couldn't prevent from coming true. Wow, Jared's flap matching is good.

A note here to say that the backgrounds are usually very pretty.

Lol they show up as priests and Sam's hair is nice. Wow, there is a shot of bread that really looks phallic. JUST SAYIN'.

So Sam talks to Max. Max is SUPER nerdy with huge birth control glasses. Dean is supposed to be talking to the mom, but mostly he's just eating while she sobs.

Max asks whether Sam and Dean are brothers, remarking that they don't look alike. Sam agrees and tells their life story, basically. Minus the paranormal special stuff. So Sam and Max get along.

There's a bloody something in the trashcan, and they cut to a park bench where Sam is about to eat a burger until Dean takes it. Hee. The blood belonged to a dog. Dean is bored.

Why does Sam have stickers and crap on his laptop? Maybe decorated laptops for guys are more common in Japan, I wouldn't know.

"If dreams really could come true I'd've gotten laid by Kate Hudson a long time ago." Hee.

Mention of Sam being stubborn. Which could be leading up to John comparisons.

So they go talk to Max's old neighbor, who tells them about how his dad had been a drunk abusive asshole. Which at least John didn't do THAT. And Max's "mom" is his stepmom. His real mom died in a fire when he was a baby. HmmmMMMMMmmmm.

Sam suddenly has a vision headache, and sees Max getting ready to stab his stepmom for not defending him. Except the knife floats and other stuff floats. Gee, think he has special powers? Great shot of the knife by her eye. Straight from the show, innit?

Sam snaps out of it, knowing that Max killed using telekine- telek- mind moving powers -_- And he figures they are connected because they both lost their mommehs. Dean kind of flips and sternly tells Sam that they are NOT connected cause Max is a MURDERER (he talks in caps like that). Sam reminds Dean that the kid's had a hard life, Dean wants to kill him anyway cause he's a monster for using powahs to kill. Well then. Sam wants to talk to him first, Dean is OK with that as long as Dean can bring a gun. Dean is very black and white. Special powers + Killing = Monster.

They stop Max in the nick of time, love the animation of the eye. So "Father Winchester" goes upstairs with Max to talk to him, tells him he understands. Turns out Max's dad killed the dog, who had been Max's only friend :( He was a puppy Max found one night when his dad beat him and threw him out. God, I hate Max's dad! And his stepmom is much worse here. She looks right in on them and basically shrugs it off and leaves, from what I can see. God, poor Max! His dad called him a demon and held him responsible for his mom's death. He had told Max about how she had been pinned to the ceiling before bursting into flames. Which sounds really familliar to Sammy.

They have a convo about being chosen yadda yadda, Max isn't buying it, he's too devistated over the death of his dog. He feels like God gave him a special gift for justice. We call it the Light Yagami Syndrome. Sam asks him to "Please stop killing people with your telikinetic power." Max says Thanks, but no thanks. Then he makes the floor open up and swallow Sam into a closet or something. Then he goes down the stairs and Dean objects. Max sees his gun and figures out they aren't priests. He uses his mind to take the gun and shoots Dean through the head. Dead. Except of course that was just Sam's vision. Man, he looks so much like a young Spike Speigal.

SAM USES MIND POWAHS TO SAVE DEAN! HURRAY PUPPEH POWAH!!!

God, Max turns the gun on himself :'( I mean, I've seen the episode of the show about three times and I know what's gonna happen, but it still hits me.

Dean is putting bandaids on Sam :) Sam is sad :( Sam is figuring out that YED was after him and Max. Dean objects to this and turns the car fast into a drive thru to stop Sam from talking. Neither of them is wearing seatbelts. Dean points out that they should blame the demon, not Sam. Then he orders food.

Sam tells Dean how he used teleke- mind powah. Dean pulls out a wrench and asks Sam to bend it. This purturbs Sam, who whacks him with it. Which is delightful to me cause it's another connection between Dean and Ed. ANYWAY. Sam thinks Dean should take this seriously cause he might turn into Max. Dean tells Sam that he will never turn into Max. Then he turns away from Sam to explain that he won't turn into Max because "You've got me." <3 Sam breaks the chick flick moment by turning the news on.

Post Credits Scene: The woman who gives them their food at the window is the woman from the bar. Man, she is chesty. It's like Rengiku (sp) on Bleach. Dean kind of flirts with her, but not really. She warns them that there's a storm on the way, though the news just predicted blue skies. As they pull away her eyes turn yellow and a man's voice says "I'll be seeing you later." DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM.

Actually, this wasn't bad. Pretty good, really. Shorter, yes, but they hit most of the important notes, the performances are good, the animation is great, and though they can't really address everything to the extent the show does, they do develop the most important themes in a satisfactory way. It's a shame they didn't really bring up Sam's powers earlier and develop them more, but it's not a critical error. This is probably the best adaptation of a show episode. I still like the original stories the show didn't do best, but this one didn't suffer for being shorter at all, imho.
