I want to find a balance whilst being in the Western society.

How is it that you can take into account all the things you learn through the media, such as The Story of Stuff or peak oil themed films and not become a hypocrite or constant involver in the horrible situation that is upon this world?

It's a headfuck.

Probably the biggest part of growing up is not, in fact, maturity or puberty... but finally replacing idealism with cynicism and learning how NOT to think about all the above.

That's very true.
However, the ideal way to combat or even attempt at solving this situation is to have everyone consider these things. Everyone must work together to make a difference. If no one thinks about these things, then not much can change.

the only way to truly force ourselves to understand how the world works is to live like the corporate third world slaves, put ourselves in their situation.

It would probably make a good doco, westerner works for nothing in sweat shop/third world factory. Has to put up with living in a tip and high levels of pollution. Perhaps everyone should be forced to experience it at some stage in their lives.

otherwise, its very difficult trying to make a difference whilst living in western society.

I guess that leads to the point where you cannot know suffering unless you have suffered yourself.

And sab, that would indeed be an excellent documentary. Definitely a perspective I have yet to see.
