In San Francisco it's actually illegal for stores to offer plastic bags. It's either paper, or bring-your-own. That's not true in the south bay, where I live, but you'll still get the evil eye from some folks if you ask for plastic. I have a nice selection of reusable bags in the trunk of my car, which is typically where they'll be when I'm nowhere near the car and need them.

I know, I usually carry a couple of those in my backpack, or in the car when grocery shopping. Ontario is enforcing this 5cents per bag law since the summer and guess it is getting people double thinking when they go out shopping.

Though visiting back home now and didn't have anything when I went to the store to pick up a CD and pack of batteries so I cringed and felt guilty when he hauled out this enormous bag for something that can easily be pocketed. Every store would have done the same thing if I wasn't insisting to use the same one heh.
