The female apparently strives to find guys that treat them like crap, while completely ignoring the efforts made by certain individuals to help them over come a bitter breakup. And thus, they return to the aforementioned asshole in an attempt to find the change brought about by their departure. Then the cycle repeats.

Your disappointment seems to stem from an expectation that women act as rational agents. This is a flawed assumption that no less an authority than Immanuel Kant pointed out over two hundred years ago.
