Went to the manchester ceilidh last night with Mr. tom K, it was so. much. fun. It was packed and the average age was probably 23.
I was confussed and had no idea what was going on for most of the evening and of course I fell over at one point but that was ok cos a lovely big man in a kilt picked me back up.
I recommend everyone go.

Ceilidhs are SO cool!!! I can never work out what I'm doing at them, but I just let people fling me around!

haha, it is full of people not knowing what they're doing (me being one, although for a first time I think I did ok, though I did have tom with me who's an expert) the band were scottish and there was a real mix of the british nationalities!
I thought knocking into people was part of the fun!

It is as long as your feet are doing the right thing and you're going in the right direction at the right time!

I need to take you all up north and show you how its done properly by people who have been doing it for 60 years or more!

Funnily enough I wondered if that was on last night as I walked past JB. Dave C told me about the last one but not with enough warning to actually go. I'm a little apprehensive about going to an "English" ceilidh as after ceilidh dancing for 26 years I'm used to everyone knowing the dances inside out and back to front. I've a feeling I'd just get annoyed at the people who keep mucking it up. I'm not being cruel I hasten to point out but there's nothing worse for me than getting my stride knocked to pieces because someones made an arse of it yet again!

I might just stick to going to the ones in my uncles local village hall which are excellent. Proper ceilidhs where everyone gets up and does their turn - usually singing or playing the fiddle and the local landlord brings his pipes along when the bar shuts, the local woman do the purvy and the village policeman acts as the bar man for the night. They are just brilliant.

well surely that's what the caller's for?
tom said that he thought most of the dances last night were too simple, but for a scared beginner such as myself it was just right!
