George MacDonald Fraser has died

I grew up reading the Flashman books. (It was a strange adolescence.) I read the McAuslan books over and over in college. Loved The Pyrates. And his Musketeers (Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay) were my generation's Musketeers, and still the best ones ever.

Will break into Thomas's single malt tonight in tribute.

Oh no! The world has truly lost a very funny writer. And his script for the Three/Four Musketeers was absolutely perfect, not just because of his ability to write humor, but also because he knew how to use Dumas' original story and use it to its best advantage. Something no other screenwriter achieved either before or after. Sigh.

Journal looks great! anonymous January 4 2008, 20:42:04 UTC
Hi, Karen, it's me, Sue! Hope you're feeling better---glad to hear you had such a nice Christmas! We did up a card for you and, like an idiot, I see it's still sitting here, among other stuff, all addressed and ready to go! I will be sending it out to you. Glad you liked the cats!

Will email you at your regular address, giving a description of the Long Beach boat parade. Am very sorry to hear about George McDonald Frasier. I gave Thin "Flashman on the March" for our anniversary.

I agree that the York, Reed 3 Musketeers is the best. It is true to the book but very tongue in cheek without being over the top. Delightful! I read the book right before I saw the movie the first time (in the original release).
