My copy of Patterns of Fashion 4 arrived yesterday--COLOR PICTURES!! 15 SMOCKS!!! DRAWERS!!! It's just in time for my class project, and  means I can start working on my Pentathlon project, too. (Eowyn, she has about nine coifs, so you're going to want this.)

In other news, watched Across the Universe last night, and loved it as only a woman my age ( Read more... )

Couldn't agree with you more about the hat--it really finished the costume. I think a coif or a caul and a little bonnet would be nice.

Thanks very much. I actually feel a lot better, which was really the point but is encouraging to actually have happen. Looking forward to the next 20 pounds, though....

The Book is really wonderful, although I keep finding I'm drawn to the slightly-past-our-period smocks. (Which wouldn't bother me except that I've got to get started on my Pentathlon project.) There's a lot of portraits I'm not familiar with, good drawings of the most of the embroidery patterns (we're all going to be embroidering smocks next year....), and a complete, illustrated set of instructions for starching and setting a ruff in the back. The ruffs turn out to be a lot more interesting than I thought they would ( ... )

You've "built Rocky Horror"? Pardon? Does that mean you've constructed costumes to wear to the show? The thought of Thomas in drag is terrifying...

Give us credit--we're about 25 years too old and 50 pounds too heavy for any of that nonsense. I've been working on the crew constructing costumes for the actors to wear in the show--specifically, I did Magenta's main outfit, built on a purchased purple bustier. (We added studded leather trim, a black vinyl skirt over black and purple petticoats, and a little maid's apron and hat in some nifty lace print and changeable organza. Will work on getting pictures--I'm told the show looks really great.

I'm sure the sales on this book will be encouraging for your proposal.
