Walking with the warkari's

Last friday,  I woke up at 6:00 am and decided to join about 500,000 people total, who were walking from one town to another, 250km away in sort of a pilgrimage.  I walked about 15 km :).

This tradition has been going on since the last 300 years or so.  This walkathon is usually soon after the monsoon has set in and so its quite pleasant for the ( Read more... )

This is really interesting. I'd want to carry a flag pole, but I'd wave it around too much and smack the walkers next to me. Also, I'd complain about being thirsty, hungry, having to pee, etc. So American.

you'd be surprised, several foreigners were part of the entire trip.

well, it appears that when you are a farmer, you pretty much go by some seasonal cycles, ie, you sow your fields before the rains etc, so these farmers had gotten done with that, now they would wait for the crops to grow or something.
So in the meantime they are out and about. or maybe their neighbours water their houseplants and feed the chickens/children etc.
