...Our clan is moving to Edmonton! Yup--R recieved an offer from a company out there that was waaaaay too good to pass up. So, after having lived in Winnipeg for over half of my entire life, I will be pulling up roots in a frighteningly short amount of time. Not having family in the city, the hardest part by far will be saying goodbye to our ( Read more... )

WOW, that's a really quick turnaround! How very exciting!! I also can't help but think you'll be closer to Kalan, too, lol!

But... but... by the time I visit my bro in the 'Peg, you won't be there anymore :( That's OK, it just means I have to visit Edmonton again. It's been about 20 years since I was there last, lol!

*laugh* yes, the turnaround was rather heartstopping--kind of like rollercoaster speed! My hubby was only informed of this job possibility in Jan. Once he decided to go for it the entire month of Feb was one extended heart palpitation till we heard he got the job. Yikes! We don't want to experience that level of stress ever again...

We have a whole new type of stress now, of course, with the mad dash to sell this place...but at least it is a positive stress with what we know will be a positive outcome--way easier to handle!

Whew! Congratulations. Just keep telling your daughters all about the West Edmonton Mall, they'll be fine...

Seriously, I've never been out West but I understand it's beautiful. Looking forward to keeping up with your adventures!

Thanks Shoe! And believe me, the WEM is one the the major reasons my girls are so enthusiastic about this move! Within hours of finding out the possibility my eldest (12 years old) was online looking up the WEM website--deciding which stores she will shop at and checking out their help wanted section for when she is old enough to have a job! I'm not kidding in the slightest... :)

I'm looking forward to being within sight of the mountains as well--even though my husband tells me they are just barely visible at that distance. Better than the absolute lack of terrain here in Winnipeg! I associate the craggy rocky landscape and mesas of rural New Mexico with home, but the Rocky Mountains will do. My husband grew up in Kelowna, BC, so he is really looking forward to the new vistas as well. We are already plotting our weekend trips to Jasper...

Exciting times for your family! It probably all seems a bit overwhelming right now, but day by day it will come together.

Enjoy the adventure and do keep us posted.

That's exactly how we are looking at it--an adventure. We can't wait to have all this stress and bother over with so we can just enjoy the new surroundings, relax, and go out for a family walk around the new neighborhood. So right now I'm just taking it one day at a time, trying to get things done a little at a time. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hehe, no can do. :) I guess you two stopping by Edmonton on the way to said wedding is out of the question as well--I'm assuming you'll do the US highway across Montana to Fargo, then North to Winnipeg... But on the bright side we will be close enough then to take trips out to BC, which means we'd be close enough to visit Portland!

Laugh, first thing I did is found out what the travel time is from portland to there. 16.5 hours, which is a full half day better than the 28 from Winnipeg :) Heck, although it's a long day, that's leaving at 6 AM and getting in at midnight. Might be a little long to take the bikes, unless we want to add some days to the trip, or buy better seats.

Living in and around the mountains is a kinda amazing thing. I never grow tired of looking up from what I'm doing and seeing snow-capped peaks.

Congradulations and good luck.

Thanks Mac! We are really over the moon about this move. R's been so unhappy at work the past few years--the red-tape and corporate mentality have been just strangling any joy and job satisfacton he once had for the work. This was just the thing he needed--a major change.

Btw, he'll be working with our gaming friend Doug who moved out there about 5 years ago. Do you remember him? So at least we will have one friend out there. Doug is already super excited about being able to role-play in person again rather than play via webcam!
