Summer is almost over...

Only 5 more sleeps till the girls head back to school! C will be in Grade 8 (wow!) and A will be in Grade 6. The summer seems like it has whizzed by...

We've had lots of Alberta Rockies adventures we can look back fondly on; seeing the deer, bears (one a little too close for comfort while on a hike) and huuuuge Elk in Jasper, the Fairmont Banff ( Read more... )

Lovely pictures! It's been almost 20 years since I've been in that area and it's still as gorgeous as ever. I so need to go back *sigh* I remember that glacier and omg glacier water is so yummy.

We had such a good time, for all the driving. In fact, I had rather more driving than I expected. I was following my husband on the way there (who, by the way, had the "fun" car--3 girls in the backseat ranging from my youngest at 10 yrs old to my little sister who is 14! Loud giggling and even louder music were his accompanyment the whole trip. I, on the other hand, got to discuss politics and foreign policy with my dad and stepmom) and missed the turn-off for Lake Louise. I ended up on what I think was the trans canada highway with literally no place to turn around. I'd say it was about a good 45 minutes after R arrived before I finally pulled into our Lake Louise lodge...good times! Yeah! But it was really too beautiful there to stay grumpy!

Yeah, it's an amazing area. Got one of my favorite pictures there:

I'm happy to see you out here enjoying the mountains with us :) Just the other side of the mountains.

Aww, that's an amazing picture! How did you get that angle? Where exactly were you and how did you get there? When you went, did you take the path to the very back of the lake(or start, depending on how you look at it I guess).

As we were leaving we saw a whole bunch of people with what looked like serious rock-climbing gear heading towards the rock cliffs further back along the path. I wish we could have stayed to watch.

We went on a hiking trail up the left (North) side of the lake, up the ridge-line overlooking the lake. At one point the trail either turned back or you could scramble down the side and return down on the lakeshore. We scrambled :) More pictures from that hike here:

This is when we were up in the area for my Brother's wedding.

Not that it's needed, but these certainly rekindle my interest in touring the Great Lodges of the CR!
