Ouch! We didn't do the fireworks thing last night. They were supposedly banned. Stupid drought.

ouch! I thought sparklers were pretty safe.

In Australia you need to have a permit for fireworks, due to the fire risk. Which means that the only fireworks you tend to see are big professional displays which look great. Here the firework experience is cheapened in my view because people do their own puny little explosions in their gardens, or let firecrackers off in the street.

And every year when kids blow themselves up during the UK's months-long firework season, and dogs and cats are terrified, and we're kept awake by antisocial neighbours letting them off into the small hours I note that, again, Australia is better than here in many ways.
