Had a fantastic-y week in Seattle, despite developing what was possibly a throat infection, with fever. It slowed me down, but dammit, it wasn't going to completely destroy my plans. The Thursday downtown/Frement plans to go get chocolates before the con, however, were dashed by a horrific accident that paralysed traffic throughout the city all ( Read more... )

You will always dumped in the main terminal after customs and have to clear through the security again when returning to Canada - but at every other airport I have changed through the experience is still much more pleasant and less evil than at Pearson ( ... )

The only time I had gone through customs at a connecting flight before was in 2007, Seattle-Vancouver-Ottawa, and I no longer remember what happened after customs (just that I had to walk through half the terminal to get to the enormous customs processing room, which flowed like smooth melted butter).

But thank you. Now I will remember to make sure that whatever connection I end up taking, I need to ensure I have more than adequate time for re-passing security. Thank goodness the line on a Tuesday at Pearson at 7:30pm was mercifully short enough to not make us miss the plane. Out of 10 doors, they had two open, though halfway they opened a third one. (In contrast, for mid-morning in Seattle, the line ten times longer took half the time to go through five checkpoints.)

My parents got caught once by the not realizing the "you go through security again".
They were in the US and they had remembered not to buy me port until they were at the duty free past airport security - but then because they had a connecting flight in Toronto, they didn't realize that they had to go through security again and so even though the duty free items had been purchased post security at the preceding airport, it still had to be checked or tossed away when they went back through in Toronto.

Of course the whole security theatre regarding liquids is just really dumb and pointless.

And now that in Toronto you do NOT see your checked luggage when going through customs anymore, for convenience, you don't even have the chance to put it in checked luggage - it's guaranteed to be lost.

I avoid YYZ.

I seem to recall that there is a tiny little magic hallway with minimal/no signage that bypasses the security re-entry problem, though.

I normally only use Pearson for the occasional domestic flight, but the signage is some parts is just terrible. Glad to know Seattle was nice! If I catch you online, I'd be interested in hearing about some of it. :-)
