The series is based on the books by Michael Connelly, which I haven't read, but I'm familiar with due to work. Season one mixes elements from the third, eighth, and twelfth book, with most of the inspiration coming from the earlier books, but stuff comes from as recent as book 21 (the most recent). We've watched all the previous seasons and will start this one soon (well, maybe after the Olympics). I like Bosch in spite of myself, I think mostly because of Titus Welliver. He uses some very dubious means (video camera on the one guy's apartment! For how long?). They do show bad cops, and some of them get caught, but some of them never do (I'm being deliberately vague, but I'm sure you know who I mean!). I've realized over the past couple of years how big I am into copaganda: grew up watching Hawai'i Five-O reruns with my Dad, Starsky and Hutch, and so on. The bad cops are rare, and they get the bad guys and rarely mistreat the good guys.

So I feel like I shouldn't keep on with this show, but I know I will ( ... )

Welliver really sells it, even if what the character does is not kosher. I try to keep the copaganda aspect in the back of my mind while watching cop shows. I can watch, but remember that just like most jobs shown in movies and on TV, it's rarely close to reality. I think it helps that I've worked around law enforcement for nearly 30 years. The wide variety of "personalities" is quite shocking ( ... )
