Archive: 'Ithaca' Timestamp

For a timestamp meme I recently posted here, sg_fignewton asked for more of the 'Ithaca' happy!ending-verse, with Daniel and Teal'c. She didn't give me a timestamp for it, so let's say...

Timestamp: 14 months pre-Ithaca
Daniel walked back into his office - his new office, which hadn’t stopped feeling, for the briefest of moments, like someone else’s every time he stepped through the door - to find his desk and no small amount of the floor covered in closed cardboard boxes. Teal’c was sitting in one of the chairs, calmly reading a magazine. He didn’t look up.

“Um,” said Daniel. “So… the packing is going well, then?”

Teal’c turned a page. “Vala has spent the last hour insisting that my DVD library would be best served in her custody.”

“And?”

“I am entrusting them to Colonel Mitchell’s care.”

“Good call,” said Daniel, stepping carefully over the few boxes between him and the remaining empty chair in front of the desk. Sitting behind it… well, it was always still a little weird. When it was Teal’c on the other side, though, or the rest of the team - not that it was really his team, not anymore - it was just wrong seeming. Teal’c gave Daniel a disapproving glance over the top of the magazine when Daniel dropped into the second guest chair. Daniel ignored it. “Not that I mind, but, uh….”

“These are for you,” Teal’c said.

Daniel leaned over to inspect the top of the closest box. It was taped closed, and written in black sharpie, in Teal’c’s blocky, precise print, was ‘Attire: pants’. Daniel blinked. “Oh. …Thanks? I’m not sure they’ll fit, though.”

“To store,” Teal’c added smoothly, as if he hadn’t stopped talking at all. “At your residence. Perhaps in your spare bedroom.”

“I don’t have a spare bedroom.”

Teal’c blinked at him serenely. “Perhaps you should acquire one.”

“For your pants.” Daniel had the feeling that he’d missed something.

“The traditional robes of the Jaffa would be inappropriate in Colorado Springs, I believe. It would be most convenient to have more suitable clothing close at hand, when I reside with you.” Teal’c paused, and then, “I think I would enjoy a window.”

“Oh,” said Daniel. And then, a moment later, when it clicked. “Oh.”

“As the Ambassador to the Tau’ri, I imagine I will be required to make numerous and perhaps extended diplomatic visits.”

Daniel nodded slowly. “I think so, yeah. For the sake of the alliance.”

Teal’c dipped his head slightly. “Of course.”

Daniel started to reply - but a knock sounded at the door, and a moment later Sergeant Harriman poked his head in. (Daniel wondered, the way he always did, if Jack had found that as completely bizarre as he did.)

“Sir, your briefing with the team leaders.”

“Right,” sighed Daniel. He reached over to pry a few files out from beneath one of the boxes on his desk and stood. Teal’c watched him, then leaned back and opened his magazine again. At the door, Daniel stopped and glanced over his shoulder. “A window, huh?”

“I think I have had enough of sleeping below ground.”

“Fair enough,” Daniel said, and went to his briefing.
