My favorite track is 'Bland Pop Anthem no.6'

I work at a childrens' theater. This can be either a lot more or lot less fun than it sounds, depending on the day or, in some cases, the ten minutes in which you ask me about it. Our kids are mostly all somewhere between 7 and 15, but the vast majority are 9-13ish (and let me tell you, you want good times? Middle school girls, my friends. ( Read more... )

work, silly, high school musical, fandom, hee!

XD

I mean, I shouldn't talk, because my First Fandom Evar was definitely The Babysitters Club. Probably, in retrospect, the High School Musical of its time. With much less choreography.

/unless it was a Jessie book, because she was a ballerina.
//why, why, WHY do I remember that?

Hee, I remember way more of the Babysitters Club than I wish to.

Awww, baby suethors. My experience to High School Musical has thankfully been limited to the outer fringes wherein I know it exists, is very clean and is wildly popular with the 8-13 year old set. And that idiots call it Grease for this generation. I'm sorry, was Grease a playground favorite and I just didn't realize it?

I hate to burst your bubble, but yes. I was a camp counselor for a cabin of girls aged 9-13 (the summer the movie came out, not later, just to be clear on how ancient I am) and they adored Grease. One of them brought the soundtrack and a portable record player and they listened to that soundtrack over and over and over until I thought I was going to cry. I know every word to that soundtrack and I didn't see the movie until much later.

Gah! Now I will have Olivia Newton John singing in my head all day.

Really? I stand corrected then, and am somewhat disturbed. I mean, it's not like Grease is the worst thing a 9 year old could love, but still.

Oh -- I think Grease definitely got around. I could sing pretty much every word of that show in middle school. And most of the kids I work with now still know the story, if not the entire show cold.

HSM musical is so squeaky clean it makes my head hurt. I have to constantly remind myself it's for 7 year olds, not high schoolers.

I'm so pleased you're using your powers for good.

I'm another one who can't talk, because my first fandom was Duran Duran, in which I was John Taylor's girlfriend. *blushes scarlet*

Aw! I was writing a story where I was Brian Litrell's (of the Backstreet Boys) little sister, once. :)

Isn't that so cute? The vibe I got is that they're all bringing their stories in for each other to read on Friday. Next my little babies will be all grown up and fandom_wanking each other over whose self insert is REALLY Chad's true love.

Aw, bless. That's how most of us start out, I think. I certainly wouldn't dare throw stones - Young Riders, anyone? My Mary Sue was appropriately called Marianne. :D

Yay Alanna! Definitely you should try to get them away from that High School Musical crap.

There are very few people out there who I am prepared to believe didn't swing through the Mary Sue phase at one point or another. Mine were all in Backstreet Boys and Star Wars and a liiiittle bit in Harry Potter before I grew out of it. My sister's were all Newsies fandom. It's like a rite of passage!
