It's a BOX full of TRUTHINESS.

I have to offer up so many thanks unto the gods of fandom for having the AoT release happen the week of my spring break, making it possible for me to actually watch it the day I got it and have time to spend on LJ reading reactions and putting mine up. (I'm still alive, by the way! Although I'm coming to terms with the fact that this year of ( Read more... )

Lovely review. We still have to wait a month here, but I am very much looking forward to it.

Both Stargate movies are set before season 4 of Atlantis. Therefore, Teal'c has not grown his hair long, but Sam has. It's a tad iffy, but that's basically it.

The Outer Space vid was made by kuwdora and is available on her LJ.

Oooh, thank you on both the link and the timeline clarification. I was just baffled as to the whole business.

I've wondered, with regards to Atlantis, if the Ori thing was really bugging Sam, not being around, so it makes a lot more sense to me that this happens before that.

I'm sooo agree with you on the 3C regarding Daniel & Vala dynamic.... they are so adorable just like that... if only they made it like that in season 9/10, I would've like them more.

I know! I could have spent a lot less time yelling "Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!" at my screen if they'd sorted this out earlier.

OMG, I had more squee than could be counted on one's fingers and toes when they did the whole face-through-the-event-horizon homage to the original movie. Whatever else I thought of the movie, they had me with that shot. And honestly, I can't really remember what else I thought of the movie, as I was tired and a little tipsy the only time I watched it.

Can't wait for the official release in NZ. I saw the naughtily-leaked version, but it was missing that final polish. Thankfully it comes out here the week before my maternity leave finishes but after I put the wee man in daycare, so I'll actually have some free time to devour it properly, YAY!

The whole entering the gate thing from the original movie was so iconic, I've been waiting for a callback for ages.

Once I got over my squee, though, I found it hilarious - there they are, on the bridge of this ginourmous spaceship that they are flying, with a gigantic blue wormhole rushing at them through walls, and they're all so blase about it. I guess 10 years in the program will do that, heh. :)

That's one thing I miss - the absolute wonder of people stepping through the event horizon for the first time. But I guess you just can't keep that up after the first few seasons. *sniff*

except i was watching so carefully for the cam/sam and i just don't see it. ship/slash is so in the eye of the beholder! but if it works for people i love that too.

I think part of the reason Sam/Cam works so well for me is because of exactly this - it is definitely an optional read of their scenes, without being a stretch. I really have almost no interest whatsoever in canon ship -- even, in fact, if we lived in a world of fluffy bunnies and rainbows, where the two male leads could have conceivably gotten into a relationship on screen, I wouldn't have really wanted canon J/D. That's what fanfic is for! So Sam/Cam have juuuust the right level of shippiness for me to completely buy and squee over.

i finally got to see it! YEA! i agree with a lot of what you said. i liked the sam/mitchell moments. i'm a sam/jack shipper, but she can't wait forever. i liked the wormhole dissolve too. i love the guy with the stargate drawing. which i didn't "get" until i was looking at it during the commentary. i was hoping for the ancients to do something too. (the arrogant prigs.) i loved the "daniel as archaeologist" moments too. (he travels with a little brush! sssqquueee!)
i'm tired of the IOA (f-ing bureaucrats)
as for when it takes place, it's after unending & before sam goes to atlantis.
