I must say Mental Floss is one of my favorite magazines. Check out this video about environmental activist John Francis.

So I "broke down" and went to see Twilight this afternoon. Best. idea. ever. to go to the afternoon showing on my day off. There were a total of ten other people in the theatre. When we walked out at 3.30 there were already kids and parents on line for the next showing.

Librarians work harder than most patrons and non-patron realize. We often spend most (if not all) of our day "on desk" answering reference questions and helping patrons find what they need while planning programs and ordering materials for the library's collection. I've been rather busy the past couple of days putting the finishing touches on a library project. We (and I really mean me and a couple of the YAs) entered a contest through the Long Island Library Resource Council. The idea of the contest was to showcase your library in a one to three minute video posted on YouTube. My end result is under the cut ( Read more... )

So Newsday is giving me a migraine.
There is an article about how much all the various library employees make all over the island, here. I'm obviously a little biased, because I'm a librarian. But in light of recent events, I'm also kinda annoyed. The comments at Topix make me even more upset ( Read more... )
