School Days
So I've spent the last couple of days of my holiday watching School Days xD It's the only anime I've watched this Christmas, and it wasn't even on my list xD
Anyway, watched it because I was interested in yandere type characters I guess and School Days is known for having a pretty messy ending. So I watched it like ehhh and found it kind of boring at first. Makoto was boring and Kotonoha was too timid for my tastes. I kept watching for Sekai because she seemed initially like a tsundere and to be a fun character.
Then holycrap it went from romantic comedy for wangsty melodrama and boy it was depressing. Ended up feeling really sorry for Kotonoha, hating Makoto for being a selfish prick all the time and kind of =/ at Sekei's stupidity, bitch moves and lack of self-respect though I still liked her. Anyway by the last couple of episodes I was hating Makoto like crazy. Seriously, I don't think I've ever hated an anime character that much XD I liked both of the main girls, and felt seriously sorry for them though I was also irritated by their actions (or inactions). Anyway you're just thinking "this is not going to end well".
And then the ending: WOW. I knew it ended with deaths but I wasn't expecting that. Also it surprised me that Sekai began the killing, I expected it to be mostly all Kotonoha, since we'd had some foreshadowing that something was not right with her. Though basically I see Sekai as just going insane with rage and heartbreak since she was clearly really shocked when she realised what she'd done. Kotonoha I think was pretty seriously unstable. Having said that, the ending was kickass and I was sort of disappointed Kotonoha didn't go even further and kill all those awful girls at school and Taisuke who practically raped her (it felt like a rape to me, idk it was only implied but ick). Basically I really enjoyed those killing scenes and wished they were longer/more graphic. Though I was also highly disturbed. Gee, something is really wrong with me.
And then I read the manga xD In the manga Makoto is waaaay less of a jerk and actually tries to stay faithful to Kotonoha and doesn't get bored of her after about 3 dates. Sekai is much more aggressive in her pursuit and less of a tease and in general she is just way less sympathetic and more of a cow. Kotonoha is pretty much the same I guess.
Though at the end Kotonoha's yandere moment comes seriously out of nowhere. Makoto choses her, apologises and everything and you think everything's all nice and resolved (not like in the anime where basically everyone was under massive emotional stress and Makoto was a complete dick). Kotonoha just suddenly gets that hacksaw out and it's like "wait- what?" because there is literally NO SIGN that that's going to happen. And then at the end Sekai turns out to be completely nuts too and it's so out of nowhere, suddenly the two girls just go totally psycho. In the anime I kind of understood why they went crazy but the the manga is was just a major WTF moment.
I kind of want to play the games xD Especially Cross Days which has cross-dressing and gay routes (lulwut) so yeah.
Apologies for ranty entry, I'm guessing most of my flist haven't seen this, but felt compelled to give my view on the characters/show. I am so going to have an irrational fear of crazy chicks with knives after watching this xD
