Top Yuri Pairings!
I've been putting this post off, because there are not actually as many yuri pairings I feel strongly about. Most of them are just casual ships, incest, or kinda very crack-ish. That being said, I feel like I should have one. So here we go:
20. Celty/Anri (Durarara!!)
That part of Durarara where Celty rescues Anri <3 I can see these two definitely having a sisterly or romantic relationship. Also, hey make such a absolutely kickass duo, seriously. One they made, my shipper goggles immediately saw this xD
19. Shiki/Eri (The World Ends With You)
Hey when google-imaging "Shiki Eri" you totally get pictures from my shipping list! =D Anyway these two and their friendship are lovely. Dispite the fact that we never really get to see how their dynamic is, I imagine it similar to Akko/Mai in Girlfriends (see 6)
18. Blaze/Tikal (Sonic)
Yes I am aware that this is pretty much the strangest pairing ever. Especially since Tikal was dead by the time Blaze was introduced to the series. But hey, me and bro used to roleplay this shit and Tikal was his bicycle character and so this happened. And it was glorious.
17. Kairi/Namine (Kingdom Hearts)
They only really meet once and romance between them is pretty damn unlikely, but these two do look adorable together. The scenes they did have together were cute, and had Naminé been from the island (like in Sora's false memories) I think they would definitely have been great friends.
16. Zelda/Peach (Super Smash Bros)
Yeeeeeah there's no real reason for this either. Basically it stems from always pairing them up on the same team whilst playing brawl with my brother and making up silly/cute plots. We were also fond of Ike/Marth. XD
15. Rikku/Yuna (Final Fantasy X)
Ignoring the travesty that was FFX-2, Rikku really cared about Yuna and I found her devotion to her really sweet. I like to think she had feelings for either Yuna or him, she was definitely giving off signs of having had an unrequited love. Additionally, this pairing has the incest factor*shot*
14. Yui/Ui (K-On!)
Ah, more cute family relations xD Ui really looks after Yui even though she's supposed to be the little sister. The episodes that focused around their sibling relationship were so sweet <3
13. Shion/Mion
Yeah, there's a lot of incest-yay going on with these two even in some of the official stuff. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, Shmion and their constant twin switches are epic. Also Shion's constant teasing, aww. And the two are clearly really close despite their separation, which is nice. The part I particularly noticed was Mion torturing herself, just so Shion didn't have to be the only one in pain <3
12. Nagisa/Tamao (Strawberry Panic!)
These two were so cute together! I felt sorry for Tamao, not having her love requited. But come on, Shizuma is hard to resist XD Anyway, I enjoy thinking about the what-ifs for this pairing, and would have been pretty happy if these two had ended up together.
11. Fransiska/Adrian (Phoenix Wright)
Aww, Adrian is definitely gay, and definitely has feelings for Fransiska. Whether Fransiska feels the same is debatable, but Adrian definitely seemed to bring out a more caring side to Franny, which was so cute! They're pretty much borderline cannon, and a relationship between the two of them would amuse me to no end.
10. Yaya/Hikari (Strawberry Panic!)
These two really needed to happen, Hikari/Amane was pretty lame to me, too cliché (complaining about clichés in SW, wut) with Amane being this "prince" and all that crap. Yaya/Hikari was way hotter and also they look vaguely similar to these girls I ship IRL so errr yeah. The relationship between Yaya and Hikari was less idealized so I enjoyed it a lot more. (Though Hikari was annoying all the time so idk).
9. Zakuro/Mint (Tokyo Mew Mew)
Mint is totally gay for Zakuro. Nuff said. There isn't really much to elaborate on; Mint's fangirliness towards Zakuro was one of her redeeming qualities and Zakuro really seemed to care about her. I also quite enjoyed how they were pretty much the two bitchy Mew Mews, Mint was too rich for that crap and Zakuro too old XD
8. Ino/Sakura (Naruto)
Well now, InoSaku is pretty much the counterpart to SasuNaru, I don't get why it's not more popular (we get SakuHina instead? wtf). The two were best friends and Ino really helped Sakura open up, and then Sakura broke their friend ship for a really stupid reason. Also, in the translation I was reading Ino's reaction to finding out Sakura liked Sasuke was like "Huh, he's a arrogant prat" which I read as her being jealous. Looking back this was probably just a mistranslation but it set me off XD Anyway basically I adore them and wish they'd hook up already.
7. Shizuma/Nagisa (Strawberry Panic!)
This was so cheesy it just had to make the list! The whole way through the show I was kinda so-so on it but then the ending happened and it was so ridiculously over the top and dramatic and romantic that I just went with it and fell for them completely. Looking back on it, I think it's a really good pairing because their relationship helped to strengthen both of them as individuals too.
6. Akko/Mari (Girlfriends)
Watching the progression of their relationship in Girlfriends was really sweet. Their love was so natural and sweet and basically it was a great story. I was so sad when it ended =[ And their denial/misunderstanding stages. So cute! Ah, it's quite an underground series but I'd totally recommend it to anyone even a little bit into yuri.
5. Akira/Kazuha (Yosuga No Sora)
Oh look, yet another sibling relationship XD These two had some strong hints in the series, which were admittedly just fan-service but hey, they even kissed one time xD Kazuha cares from Akira so much and it is cute. And their family problems were so upsetting. It was lucky they had each other.
4. Vietnam/Taiwan (Hetalia)
Er, this one is based purely on personal headcannons and the fact I think they look cute together. I think they kind of have the tomboy/girly-girl thing going on but both of them are actually a bit more complex than that. I imagine them as friends who grew apart over time but are still besties. There is no real historical reasoning behind it though xD
3. Mai/Shizuka (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
These two are an OBVIOUS YuGiOh ship I have no idea why they're not more popular. Mai is so sweet towards Shizuka and Shizuka looks up to her so much and whilest it's mostly sisterly in yuri series there's a lot of sisterly romantic ships so I can totally see it.
2. Morgause/Morgana (Merlin)
OMG there is so much subtext for this couple in Merlin. I used to ship Morgana/Gwen but that ship pretty much sunk and these two are waaaay better anyway. They're all "look at us all villainous" thing I adore (see thiefshipping) and their close relationship shows that they're not all just EVIL. Plus they seem to be hardcore flirting half the time XD I really hope Morgause isn't dead since it wasn't too clear if she was or not though if she is it tick my "tragic" box so I'm set either way.
1. Hazumu/Tomari (Kashimashi)
Yuri pairing number 1! Some people wouldn't count this since Hazumu was technically a boy once but since he fully settles into being a girl and whatnot and actually seems way happier that way I reckon it counts. Annnnyhow Tomari was my favourite girl in this show by far Yasuna completely bored me. All of their scenes were so romantic and/or heartbreaking I loved them despite all the melodrama. Their "wedding" at the end of the show was narmful in all the right ways and I loved it XD
