Kamen Rider meme time, from
here. Let's meme!
The one that was your first: Kabuto. I started it as Den-O was beginning, actually, and marathoned it in like a week. Truth be told, I didn't really like it at first, but Tendou was pretty so I kept watching and after about five/six episodes found myself falling in love with the show itself.
The one with the best theme song: omg this is hard. :( I love love love Climax Jump and it's a little special for me (I love AAA you see), but I love Alive-a-life and Anything Goes! and Blade Brave so much too so it's really hard for me to pick just one here.
The one that made you laugh the most: Blade, but it wasn't really intentional on their part lmao.
The one that made you cry the most: Tie between Ryuki and Blade. I sobbed really hysterically at Ryuki's penultimate episode and ending, but I probably cried almost as much for Blade and on rewatches it still really gets me. W would be up here too if not for the final episode.
The one that surprised you: Agito, but I'll talk about that below. Hibiki because who isn't surprised by Hibiki. Decade because I expected to like it more than I did (not that I disliked it but)?
The one that didn't meet your expectations: You see, when I started Agito I was expecting something really great after the way a lot of fandom raves on about it. It's kind of held up as like, one of the best Rider series ever, if not the best of the Heisei era, so I thought well hey, I'll probably really enjoy this. And then it was the dullest fucking Rider series I've ever seen in my life. What do you people see in this slow-paced, horribly characterised shit. :|
The one with the best relationship: W, Teriyaki forever. ♥~ To be honest I generally don't really like a lot of canon relationships, especially when Toei writes them. I find that thanks to being a kid's show, a lot of the canon ships in Kamen Rider are kind of bland and watered down and lack any spark that keeps me interested. But Ryu and Akiko are this perfect mix of genuinely in love with each other but still, you know, not so perfectly lovey dovey that scenes between them lose any kind of compelling friction. I really love them a lot you guys. :*
The one with the best fight scenes/action: I think it's a tie between Kabuto and 555 for me? Kabuto has that gorgeous suit-acting and 555's fight scenes always had a legitimate sense of danger for the protagonists even in the early episodes (that night scene in the first episode is awesome too).
The one with the best suit design/transformation scenes: welp obviously it's W here isn't it :|
The one that you compare all the others to: it's W again isn't it :| I already talked about this a little bit on Twitter but a thing about me is I really start to side-eye you if you think W was a bad or even an average series. Like, generally I'm a pretty "well we all like what we like" kinda person when it comes to opinions about the various Rider series but lmao I do kinda think people who don't recognise how amazing W is are idiots AND I WILL WRITE ESSAYS IF PROVOKED. Like, I really think that it was only a couple of problems here and there that kept W from being an actually perfect show. The writing was so good, and the acting was nuanced and spot on for everyone, and the themes were really inspired, and the suit design was gorgeous, and it walked such a delicately perfect line between gutwrenchingly serious and really funny and I could go on about this for ages but the point is that I am very defensive about W. :| :| :|
but my favourite series is Blade
