Chapter 5

The bland expression of Jaejoong towards him in the morning kept appearing in Yunho’s mind and that caused him to have insomnia at night.

Giving up on sleeping, Yunho opened his eyes, thinking why Jaejoong had changed so much after three years.

He was not able to keep track of Jaejoong and Ji Shin after they escaped from the house.

Three years might be a long period, at least it was long enough for him to realize his mistakes and how stupid he was to actually let his own blood-related brother to be out in his life while he only had him as his only relative after his father’s death. He only realized how much lonely he was after Jaejoong and Ji Shin left the house. As much as he hated Ji Shin, he could not deny that Ji Shin was actually a nice and caring mother to him.

Letting out a loud sigh, Yunho determined and assured himself to treat Jaejoong better starting from now on. It was his fault and he would admit it. And yes, the hatred towards them had faded away after three years, Yunho would like to have a real family again.

He wanted to compensate Jaejoong, at least it would make him to feel less guilty.

After reassuring himself that Jaejoong would not reject him, Yunho fell into his dreamland comfortably.

In his dream, he saw Ji Shin and little Jaejoong smiling and waving at him, and the word “Hyung!” came out from that little cute red lips.

He reached his hands to hold on little Jaejoong’s hand and he gave him the brightest smile he had never seen.

“Jaejoong, Mr. Jung wants you to see him now.” The head of the General Services Department, Mr Bae, instantly reminded Jaejoong as he stepped into the department. He was so nervous when he received the call right from the CEO as he could not believe that this small department could receive such attention although the call was not for him.

He looked at Jaejoong as how people admired their idols. Indeed, as he thought, if the CEO was to notice their department, then at least or maybe their department can received better treatment from other department which totally ignored them as they are the second lowest rank of employees after the toilet cleaners.

Jaejoong nodded in response and ignored the glaring sparks Mr Bae was sending to him when he looked at him. After putting down his bag on his small desk, he went to the pantry to drink some water before he slowly proceeded to the elevator to get to the top level of the building.

“Good morning, are you Mr Kim Jaejoong?” The secretary greeted him with a smile just as he stepped out of the elevator.

Jaejoong nodded.

He was surprised to see that the secretary was actually standing in front of the elevator waiting for him. He wondered what Yunho was up to.

“Mr Jung is waiting for you, please come with me.” The secretary said as she escorted him to Yunho’s room, knocking on the door before asking Jaejoong to go inside.

Yunho was sitting with his body straight on the ergonomic office chair, indeed he was feeling nervous, still thinking how he should address his intention to Jaejoong in a nice way.

“Good morning, sir. May I know the reason you wanted to see me? As far as I know, I did nothing wrong.”  Jaejoong was greeting him but it sounded more to be a mock.

Yunho furrowed his eyebrows as he listened to Jaejoong’s uninterested yet sharp words.

“Please sit down first, Jaejoong.” Yunho watched as Jaejoong sat down and then he continued, “You are my brother, and I won’t let you to work at the General Services Department. I can offer you a better position in other departments.”

“Sir, I don’t think this is necessary. I’m happy with my current state.” Jaejoong replied, still with toneless voice.

“You should get a higher position than working at that dreadful department. How can you work as a general employee under our father’s company?”

Jaejoong gazed into Yunho’s eyes for a few seconds before he answered, “Sir, I’m Kim Jaejoong and I’m not a tidbit associated with the Jung family, why would you say that we have the same father?”

He stood up before Yunho could say anything, “Sir, I hope you don’t interfere with my work. And now, please allow me to leave and continue my work.”

Without waiting for Yunho’s approval, Jaejoong straightly walked towards the door and leave the room.

******

During lunch time, Jaejoong brought his lunchbox to the cafeteria and settled down at a table in the corner, not wanting to mix with anyone else.

He was acting coldly to everyone since he started working here, which was just the previous day.

For the first day, those colleagues from his department were trying to be friendly to him but they only earned a cold shoulder from him. Since then, no one really wanted to talk to him or approach him unless for work purposes.

Today was probably a bit different.

A person as sensitive and caution like Jaejoong would feel and notice that someone was basically watching him.

He turned around and saw no one except Jung Yunho, who was sitting behind him and was now staring at him.

Ignoring the intense glare, Jaejoong turned his head back and started eating the food he brought from home.

Seeing Jaejoong’s reaction towards him, Yunho was inevitably unsatisfied with it. He had tried to talk to him in a nice way but he rejected him. But he tried to calm down and persuaded himself that he had to try again.

Yunho stood up from the seat and approached Jaejoong, sitting opposite to him at the same table.

Still, Jaejoong decided to ignore him after seeing his series of action, lowered his head and filled his mouth slowly with the food.

Yunho peeped into his food container, but to find that the food inside looked terrible that he did not even know what it was.

“What are you eating? Is this even food?” Furrowing his eyebrows, he showed great disgust on the food.

“Sir, if you don’t feel like seeing it, then I’ll leave.” Jaejoong said while he closed the container with its seal and stood up to get ready to leave.

Yunho stood up and grabbed on his arm to prevent him leaving, “No, I don’t mean that. Just, I’ll get you some food, okay?”

“Thank you for your kindness, sir. But I don’t think there is a need to do that. Can you please let go of my arm?” Jaejoong finished his words without even looking at Yunho while he was speaking.

Instead of letting him go, Yunho tightened his grasp and led Jaejoong to the smoking room which was beside the entrance of the cafeteria. His action did received attention from those who were having lunch there. He knew rumours would fly out soon but he did not care much. Right now, he just needed to talk to Jaejoong who was avoiding him crazily.

There was no one inside the smoking room and Yunho instantly locked the door after they went in.

Yunho let go of his grasp, “Jaejoong, can you stop torturing yourself?”

Jaejoong rubbed on his arm which was a bit painful due to Yunho’s strength while he looked at him coldly, “What makes you think I’m torturing myself? I have made myself clear that I’m satisfied with my current state.”

“Satisfied? Working in low position and eating those terrible food, is that called satisfied?” Yunho scoffed, getting irritated with Jaejoong’s stubbornness while he only wanted to make his life better.

Jaejoong remained silence while he looked away from Yunho.

Yunho let out a deep breath before he continued, “Jaejoong, I know you hate me but at least treat yourself better and don’t reject me, okay?”

“Do you think if you compensate us now, we’ll actually forgive you? We didn’t even think of you during the three years.” Jaejoong looked back at him and said tonelessly.

Yunho understood what Jaejoong meant. He was saying that, without him, they would live a better live and he was nothing important in their life.

“I really want you to be my brother.” Yunho said sincerely, although he felt akward saying this after all that had happened. But, he just spurted all out.

Jaejoong could not deny that he was actually touched with what Yunho had said. All the while when he was little until he left the house, he was hoping every day and night that Yunho would recognize him as his brother and as a part of the family. He did not know how he should response to this.

As Jaejoong bit his lower lips and furrowed his eyebrows, Yunho was glad that at least Jaejoong finally had a different expression on his face instead of the cold poker face he was portraying all the time. He knew that maybe he would succeed this time.

Yunho gave him a big hug, “Jaejoong, can you still be my brother?”

Jaejoong did not answer but Yunho could feel a slight nod from the shorter person who was locked in his embrace a few seconds later, which made him to smile thankfully.

“Thank you, Jaejoong. Thank you.” Yunho hugged tighter on Jaejoong. He knew that Jaejoong was not too willing to forgive him yet but at least he still approved to be his brother.

Jaejoong closed his eyes and softly placed his hands around the waist of the taller man who was hugging him, which Yunho would not feel him hugging back as his coat was too thick to even sense the soft placement.
