I used to know about this great big town
But now its just a few shacks so broken up and run down
See the listless residents as they grovel
On their knees holding shovels
Digging deep down into the soil
Well I hope they aren't looking for meaning
Cause that gold you see in the dirt gleaming
Yeah I hear its the cheap fools kind
And its poisoning our minds
But if you want it bad enough you'll go blind
And I want to console them but they don't understand
Why I would feel anything for them
Well it looks like the desperate have dug their graves
And they'll bury themselves over and over again
But it doesn't help to victimize yourself
So don't feel worthless you're not some old toy on a shelf
If you look hard enough you'll find that you've got a soul to sell
Well I hear that you're feeling down
Take a hit of this a swig of that you'll come around
And you can buy drugs to numb the pain
But it gets expensive to fix your brain
And you're bound to regret it the next day
And when you wake up cold and realize you're alone
It almost justifies never coming back home
And yeah I hear that God he is dead
We can all blame those God-damn athiests
Who poured concrete on some pure Christian dreams
And said when you die there is absolute nothing
How bad would it be to spend your life working up to nothing
And I wish I could believe
That there was a spot up in heaven for me
But for now I'll take what I can get
I'll entertain myself to death
At least then I can catch up on my rest
And when I wake up cold I realize how alone I am
Even though I've found love it doesn't fill in the gaps
