don't take this seriously if you don't want toonisamshaFebruary 23 2008, 01:44:36 UTC
follow-up:
a story about a very intelligent young man (or woman if you're feel up to the challenge), unsure what he wants from life/what he wants to study, debating whether he should join the army during a time of war. his one motivation is that he wants something tangible and real in his life. he doesn't want to hurt people, only help them.
i'm thinking the first 1/3 is a long stream of consciousness monologue involving him looking over forms and documents, weighing pros and cons. second 1/3 him in boot camp, thinking wtf have i done. last 1/3, him landing in iraq/afghanistan on one of those giant c-130's.
i should find it strange that i so often find myself understanding of your self-doubt and feelings of misplacement--not because you deserve to feel this way (you don't!) but because we are in such entirely opposite positions. i am twice dropped out of college, perpetually cemented in some dead-end job, and always wondering what the hell i might do next. i want to sit at jim's with you and pretend we have all of life's answers, or just agree that we are clueless. good luck with everything.

you're right, you can't just poop one of these out of your mind at a moment's notice.
