I'll agree that television may be a "vast wasteland," but I wouldn't go so far as to lump the Internet into the same category. True, the amount of junk on the web is nauseating, but pretty much anything you'd like to know is at your fingertips.

But the notion that we have a world's worth of information "at our fingertips" basically nullifies the need to study and, more importantly, learn even the most basic concepts. Why commit to memory any knowledge when every question can be answered by a Google or Wikipedia search that takes a fraction of a second? Sure, you'll forget the info in a matter of hours, but it'll always be right there waiting for you on the Internet.

I'll admit that the Internet should be used as a supplement to education, but I worry that our already-lazy generation, not to mention the ones to come, are being and will continue to be adversely affected by all of these so-called conveniences.

Interesting. Leonard Cohen, Dr. Moss and Joyce Carol Oates were all under serious consideration for my guest list.

Also, I would've bet the farm on you choosing Chan Marshall.

I thought I might post a list as well, but it would just be a combination your your list and Will's. Gross. But! Including Edward Norton and Zadie Smith.
