He'd always been able to get himself out of bed at a moment's notice, and that trait had only been emphasized in the war when abrupt awakenings often quickly led to calls for action and new orders.  He was an early waker in the morning, besides, and often went for a workout or to ITF training just at the break of dawn, before the heat of the day ( Read more... )

Jane was very slow to wake. It was constant because she had grown accustom to lazy mornings until Mama called her down to break their fast and then Lizzy would go off to read and Jane would sew or read or help her sisters. These mornings were lovely because Liddy now slept through the night and she enjoyed the warmth of sharing her bed with someone that she loved very dearly.

"I'm fairly certain that's the sun," He said, soft and terribly fond amusement colouirng the tones of his sleep-roughened voice. "But I could be mistaken."

Jane smiled with great happiness and laziness at once, turning her body so that she aligned with him. She peered up through heavy lids to regard him happily, leaning up to press a kiss to his lips. It clouded over the sadness that would inevitably come claim her once more when she recalled her friends lost, but for the moment, she was truly happy. "It is but months until our wedding, Carwood," she reminded him.

He pressed another quick kiss to her lips before she pulled away, her drowsy affection so endearing that he never wanted to have to let her go. "So long?" He smiled, his head on the pillow next to hers, but he knew about those missing friends, and wanted to hold her even closer at the tendancy of people to slip away without warning. "How are the preparations coming?"
