First Day - wandering around....

He’s supposed to be getting comfortable in his new desk. He’s never understood what that’s supposed to mean exactly. There’s nothing comfortable about it anyway. He has, however, discovered the trick to leaning his chair back against the filing cabinet without slamming his knee into the desk. It only took seven tries to get the hang of it. He’s ( Read more... )

Megan Wheeler tossed her keys onto her desk as she came into the squadroom, muttering something to herself about ''Partner' does not mean 'valet.'" She ran a hand through her hair before she poured herself a cup of coffee, using one of the styrofoam cups kept by the pot. It wasn't that she didn't have coffee mugs... she just didn't want to risk any of them getting broken here by coworkers or perps gone wild...

Finally, her need for coffee sated, she noticed a stranger. Ross had finally found someone to fill that desk. She took another sip of the coffee as she went over and grinned. She indicated the jar of jelly beans. "Should probably hide those or there won't be any left once Logan sees 'em."

He really thinks everyone is too young to work here, or maybe that's his own personal way of denying that he's getting old. Regardless, Freckles seems nice.

"Logan," he says, and the name sounds familiar, but it's been seven years. Still, he wants to think he's heard of this Logan fellow before. Maybe. Or maybe Danny was venting at dinner. There was a good portion of dinner that he wasn't paying attention to Danny because the food was actually fantastic. He picked. He wouldn't dare let Danny pick some lame, cheap food establishment. "No worries. I've got enough for a re-fill, but I'll watch out for him."

Oh, and he still has cappuccino left from earlier which is lukewarm now but not worth wasting a drop. He reaches for his cup, "Clearly I'm new, thus the probation desk," he laughs and extends his free hand, "Nichols."

"Wheeler," she replied, shaking his hand with a smile.

The thought occurred to her that for being new, he wasn't young. Not that anyone that young got into MCS-- she knew she was the youngest detective here, and her record alone wouldn't have gotten her here. Not that she wasn't qualified, she reminded herself, but she wasn't going to deny that she wouldn't be here if she hadn't impressed the captain. Still, despite the experience required for this squad, this guy wasn't even comparatively young.

"I used to keep a stash of vanilla wafers in my desk drawer," she said, grinning wider. Megan laughed. "They kept vanishing. I really suggest finding a way to boobytrap that jar."

"I've always been fond of the strawberry ones," he says, and he's tempted to tell her a story about this fantastic place he came across in Germany once. Tempted. He doesn't though.

"Somewhere I have plans for building a trebuchet out of chopsticks." That's true, actually. He discovered it on the internet one day, and it only took a few orders of Chinese takeout to save up enough chopsticks. "If Logan raids my jelly beans, I'll pull out my arsenal."

...it's sad that he's actually a bit excited about the prospects of defending his jelly bean jar.
